I am bored as a fart in a ping pong ball. I'm also sipping a single malt and pondering what to have for supper. It's already havin' an effect on the neurons.

All of a sudden a memory came back of Lion’s Mane fungus. Hericium Americanum for you cone heads. I had it once, very slightly done in butter and it was the bollox. The best!

The problem is you can’t find it in the UK. So I’m stuck with the Tesco run of the mill.

I used to hunt Morel mushrooms when I lived in Virginia, not sure if they are up this far North. Those are outstanding sauteed in a little butter.

CJ's got my drift....so's Thunder, I think.

Morles are run of the mill. I don't want to sound pompus on that. But your Yank Lions Mane are IT. You should try them, "bocata di cardinale"

I have never heard of them, I'll have to give them a look. I'm definitely not a mushroom afficianado. Morels are just easy to spot and know that you aren't eating one of those "Death Angels" or whatever the hell those are called that kill you in about 5 seconds. The only reason I started looking for mushrooms was because an old boss of mine told me to try looking in the woods behind my house because they would probably be there. He grew up in the woods of Pennsylvania and used to say sh*t like "When the leaves on the poplar trees are as big as squirrels ears, that's when you hunt mushrooms..."I found a boatload of them. I usually sauteed them with steak. The restaurants in the area used to pay over 30 dollars a pound for Morels.

Our outfit sells most wild shrooms dried, fresh and frozen to the restautant trade, but we don't stock the shrooms you seek Lazy Lob. There is a company that sells imported US wild foods in the SE England but I cannot remember their name.

I live in the Midwestern Mississippi valley. Morrals only exist for the first warm two weeks of spring. Buyers in Chicago will pay up to $50 a pound for them. Great in butter, fantastic in eggs. We always freeze them in butter and keep for the winter.
What the worst thing anyones ever eaten with "shrooms" or seen anyone eat with them? Mine is a buddy pressed his shrooms into a Snickers bar. He couldn't wait for the pizza to cook.

CJ, I agree Morels are exceptional. Their texture and taste are fantastic. On a steak with a light cream sauce..mmmm. The other ones you refer to may be “Trompettes de la Mort” (death’s trumpets), very smoky and delicious.

Bacilluspolymyxa, the Lion’s Mane fungus is very delicate and I’ve only seen it once here in the UK on a supermarket shelf (Waitrose) ages ago. If you do remember that company’s name please PM me.

Thanks guys.

Oregon is the world's largest producer of rare mushrooms. Hooray damp climate!

....'cept for I don't like mushrooms so it doesn't do me any good.
