A man convicted of abducting and raping a 26-year-old woman as she walked home from work has been sentenced to 511 years in prison, the harshest penalty allowed by law, prosecutors said Friday.
John Fuller, 38, was convicted earlier this year of second-degree kidnapping, robbery and two counts of sexual assault for the attack that began Jan. 6, 2005, Denver district attorney spokeswoman Lynn Kimbrough said.
A second man, Melvin Williams, 55, in May pleaded guilty to second-degree kidnapping and sexual assault for his role and is serving a prison sentence of 35 years to life.
Prosecutor Verna Carpenter argued for the maximum sentence because of the brutal, random nature of the attack.
During the trial, jurors heard testimony from the woman about how she was forced into a van and assaulted for four hours before being released.
Denver District Court Judge Robert McGahey said the crime was the first he had ever seen bring jurors to tears at trial, Kimbrough said.
