anyone else notice some of the new changes and look of the forum (ie. infractions by some members names...etc)? Is there a sticky around that I missed that explains some of the new improvements?

Infractions: 0/1 (6)

It has something to do with negative points you've earned for breaking rules and the number of days before they expire and how many total points you have. Your total points are used to automatically hash out punishment (banning) by vBulletin.

Look at Elemental666's post on THIS (http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php?t=88179)page.

And the Red Card at the bottom right of LatinSoldier's (http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php?p=1835531&highlight=card#post1835531) post just above *ahem* DW's post.

I'm guess the Red or Yellow card shows up on the post that was the cause and then numbers under the avatar follow you through every post till they expire.

There is some info on vbulletin's website. But the rules, points, penalties are made up by the site admin.

So Suspended for infractions will appear instead of "banned"...interesting. And no more ask why such and such was banned because everyone can look at the red cards. Thanks for clearing up a few things.:)

Hopefully there aren't any more vague rules like "don't make me mad".

That could mean anything. Playground bullies love rules like that.

slow but steady improvements...they need a thing that tells people how many times they have been banned.....itd be interesting to spot the ****heads from afar

Well I expect Hood will post something far more succinct than I can but from my understanding so far it boils down to this;

Infraction system is exactly like getting a red or yellow card in footy. For various infringments to the posted rules of the forum, the infringer gets a certain number of points added to his profile. Once these add up to 10 they are suspended for a short period of time- kinda like driving licence demerit points.

It doesn't replace banning, we still have that capability- both temporary and permanent. The Infraction system does allow us however more scope in keeping members in line whilst also providing a clear reason to the user and other members for the infraction and resulting discipline.

It also gives the mods a very easy way to monitor folk who repeatedly break the forum rules.

That's it in a nutshell (I think)... :)

At least now some won't even start a thread asking "Can the Mods tell me why X got banned?" ;)
