this looks dangerous...i dunno, but we handle our charges very differently in the swiss artillery. theyre only exposed shortly prior to being used.
sure, if one of those charges were to go off there wouldnt necessarily be an explosion, but every charge in the open would catch fire and those things burn quite fecking hot!

And people were wondering where I got the 'Bystander syndrome' theory from.... (the theory states most people wounded in clashes between two armed groups are those who foolishly stood around while one group fires from relative proximity...and the bystanders end up catching the bullets)...
And yes, I know they're around the corner from the direction of the guy's target...

suuuure. I can't really believe many of the pictures from lebanon and palastina these days. That bear looks strangly clean to me. And the way he's throwing it almost makes me think the whole thing was staged for a nice dramatic photo.
None the less I would like to stress that I am, of course, against civilian losses (on both sides). Innocent civilians are becomming the victims because hezbollah hides behind them and Isreal won't let that stop them targeting buildings. Both sides are wrong in doing so, but the biggest part of the blame should rest with hezbollah.

This two photo combination shows two versions of an Associated Press photo from the Prudhoe Bay oil field which was taken Friday Aug. 4, 2006 and and originally transmitted on the AP wire Sunday evening Aug. 6 to illustrate a story on the shutdown of the oil field. In the image on the left, oil technician Bob Newton appears to have four hands and there is a section of the pipe which appears to have a double image due to a distortion in the image caused by careless use by the photographer of a software feature in Photoshop called a "cloning tool." The photographer had used the feature in an attempt to clear up a glitch in the picture caused by a dirty sensor, the part of a digital camera that records the image. AP's ethical guidelines permit use of "cloning" in limited circumstances to clean up dirt or scratches from an image. The image on the right is the original image without the erroneous clone tool use. Earlier Monday, The ******* news agency said it has cut its ties with a Beirut-based freelance photographer who it found had intentionally manipulated two photographs from the ongoing fighting in Lebanon. reading my post above you will notice that news images in general are routinely digitally altered - though the extent and purposes vary. Touchups are routine for all photojournalists.
To say that only Jihadists and their chronies stage and alter images is a very biased statement at the very least.
Yes, they certainly ham it up and have great likelyhood for staged images in a shrewd effort to wage a propaganda war.
I'll give you some examples of unaltered images:

He, I know full well that image manipulation is done by photojournalists, but when it starts to become "unethical", thats where the problems start.
UNETHICAL: Editing should maintain the integrity of the photographic images' content and context. Do not manipulate images or add or alter sound in any way that can mislead viewers or misrepresent subjects.
Please provide me with a photo that has been edited in a way that it will change public opinion in favour of the Israels.

He219, awesome post, as always!
this looks dangerous...i dunno, but we handle our charges very differently in the swiss artillery. theyre only exposed shortly prior to being used.
sure, if one of those charges were to go off there wouldnt necessarily be an explosion, but every charge in the open would catch fire and those things burn quite fecking hot!
the guy on the left does seem to have had some training. his stance is pretty good and hes got the triggerfinger long...not what you usually see from "militants"...

Lebanon where a piece of gear was ****y trapped and the end result was something like 10 Israeli soldiers killed. Again, details in my mind are kind of hazy.

bendert (sp?) short dot sight on the guy on the left in the last picture
He, I know full well that image manipulation is done by photojournalists, but when it starts to become "unethical", thats where the problems start.
UNETHICAL: Editing should maintain the integrity of the photographic images' content and context. Do not manipulate images or add or alter sound in any way that can mislead viewers or misrepresent subjects.
Please provide me with a photo that has been edited in a way that it will change public opinion in favour of the Israels.
EDIT, I wont futher disrupt this thread, I will look to find a thred in a different part of the forum, sorry for the interuption.
Staged photos are much more a concern than image manipulation, especially in regards to photojournalism/documentary photography. Staging goes on behind the camera and unless it is witnessed, only conjecture can be made. (As He219 pointed, the examples he used are probably staged). Extensive image manipulation in the field under pressure is very difficult. Just look at the two examples Mr. Hajj has provided us. Hardly the stuff of vast conspiracies.
Furthermore, there is direct and indirect staging of photographs. The majority of "staging" probably occurs with zero input or direction from the photographer and is simply a result of the subjects awareness of the presence of media. In that case, the breach of ethics or simple unprofessionalism occurs because the photographer is ignorant that the subject is "performing," the photographer makes a poor choice selecting the image as news worthy, the photographer uses a vague or misleading caption for the photo, or the photographer chooses to become complicit in the staging and falsifies a caption outright.
By the way, that Pallywood doc seems pretty tenuous to me. A case of drawing very simplistic conclusions from a complex scene (this could of course, function either way).

Great photos HE, much appreicated!
Yes, it is disappointing to see dead Lebanese children. Though let us not forget how the situation came about!
Israel left southern Lebanon in the Spring of 2000! One of the arrangements was for hizbollah to be dimilitarized! And as we have seen the last 6+ years, that NEVER took place. So if Israel destroys the entire nation, so be it! The Lebanese government knew DAMN well, what hizbollah's intentions were! If you cannot see that, that your an idiot.

What are you going on about?!
Is it because I posted graphic images and perhaps I struck a nerve?
I am aware of the situation that brought Israel to act and even supported it.
That doesn't mean I don't empathize with the plight of civilians.
Debate the merits of targeting appartments and neighborhoods by airstrikes instead.
Yes, Hezbollah hides launchers everywhere.
Yes, Hezbollah and their supporters live everywhere.
So do their families, friends, neighbors and countrymen.
There's not much of a moral difference with the thousands of dumb rockets Hezbollah launches against Israel and the net result of bombing Israel does against Lebanon.
To me it's not about the justification, but the net result of actions that only exacerbate a pre-existing situation and formets even greater hate and resentment for decades to come.

Crude oil covers the historic port of Byblos in Jbeil, Lebanon, Sunday, Aug. 6, 2006. Much of Lebanon's coastline is now awash with crude oil believed to originate from the Jiyeh power plant, some 50 kilometers (31 miles) south of Jbeil which has been ablaze since it was targeted by Israeli airstrikes and is said to have leaked around 15,000 tons of oil into the Mediterranean sea, according to local environmental organizations. Sorry, I have not seen this one until now, this photo to me, just doesnt seem to be as provocative as the others. But I do wonder how many cigarettes they/he went through before getting the shot right (Ap size/ DoF ect.), not to mention trying to find the right size rock, just to be able to prop up the shoe at just the right angle so the smoke would billow out. ;-)

And yes, I know they're around the corner from the direction of the guy's target...There is no "target". I would say there isn't an Israeli soldier within 100 miles, but Israel is small, so it's probably more like 1 mile. ;) Even just comparing one of Mohammed Ballas' photos with others, he somehow manages to get pictures of perfectly composed, clean, non-sweaty "fighters" in perfect focus with clean composition every time... Because they're firing at walls, or into empty buildings, or at nothing at all. Then he writes the caption that they're "shooting at Israelis" and another Pallywood image is born.
Seriously, Ballas is a master at this, I'd say he's the best of the fakers they have. If you see enough of his photos, you can pick them out of a whole post full of pictures from Israel. He's very consistent, and IMO he's very good. A few weeks ago there were pictures from Israel showing an "old Palestinian fighter" (remember the pics of the guy with the gray beard?) and a group of guys with a rocket launcher "exchanging fire with Israeli troops", except he managed to get photos of them in different poses from all sorts of interesting angles, from 360 degrees around their position, and not a one of them looked a little bit stressed from being "shot at".
This is not to say that all the pics from Lebanon or Gaza, etc. are staged, but there's a lot of BS in there. "Media" and "Prostitute" are synonyms in a lot of ways.
Anyhow... Great photos as usual, it's odd how these threads become news sources rather than just a source of cool pictures to look at.

First of all He, I was responding to a post by Switek. Second of all, if you like to play the Moral Relativity game. Knock yourself out. Life is not fair. Nor is a war. Non-combantants have always been killed in war. This is nothing new. (Except to those you, who view the world through a post-modern lense!)
Israel is NOT targeting civilians for the hell of it. (though if you and others believe so, again knock yourself out.)
It is a good thing the US & UK didn't stop at Bastonge, in 1944. To ask for a cease-fire with the Wehremacht. Or that the US/ANZAC forces didn't stop fighting at Papua New Guinea, to ask Emporer to disengage. Otherwise WWII would never have been won!
