Well it certainly isnt a rocket but a bomb, would say something like a MK84 2000lb bomb, but I think they only use JDAM weapons? Which would mean the bomb has lost a few parts here and there... I think there will be more ppl who got more info on this... Anyway its best that they are removing the weapon before its used as a IED by Hezbollah...

I think when reporters say, "An unexploded Israeli missile lies in a street in the southern Lebanese border town of Bint Jbeil" they just mean 'missile' in the word's literal sense - An object or weapon that is fired, thrown, dropped, or otherwise projected at a target; a projectile.

An Israeli woman hugs her child after having been injured in the Hezbollah rocket attacks, in Haifa. Three people were killed and some 40 others wounded when at least five Hezbollah rockets hit residential areas in Haifa on Sunday evening. This was the heaviest rocket strike on Israel's third largest city since the conflict began on July 12.

Just goes to prove that a tank, regrdless of protection, is not invincible. Strange that the israelis do not deploy specialised engineer vehicles other than the Puma, which is in effect en engineer squad heavy APC without equipment such as dozer blades, mine ploughs and the like. It also appears that they have forgotten the painful lessons of the 1973 war and are sending tanks into combat without adequate infantry or engineer support. The Merkava does, however, have excellent crew protection though and fire suppression systems. I have yet to see a late model example blown apart by an ammunition explosion as a result of a mine or ATGM hit.

I don't think it is offensive here, (Netherlands) at least, not that i'm aware of. I've never seen it being used here.

God bless israel. I hope they kick the living sh!t out of hezbollah. Those tanks burning may seem terrible, but the markava tanks are very durable and the crew has a very high chance of surfival. The tanks themselves are total losses though :-(

An Israeli warplane drops flares east of the southern Lebanese port of Tyre 10 August 2006. Lebanese police said earlier in the day an Israeli drone fired a missile on a road south of Tyre, killing a civilian on a motorbike, while a helicoper gunship attacked a building in the city housing a charity owned by Lebanon's Shiite spiritual leader Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah. At least 1,087 people, mostly civilians, have been killed in Israeli attacks on Lebanon since the offensive started on July 12, according to an AFP count of official tolls today. Laser microphones are used to surveil people talking in buildings with glass windows. There's really not much point to using those things elsewhere. And from the number of laser mics they had (2, possibly 3), they were doing some serious listening of someone.

Not military. Civilian theodolite mount, sports image intensifier. Commercial quality video camera. Good quality video cable, but they should have lef it looped up - looks like the setup was put up in a hurry.
Having never seen a laser mic (and I hear they suck mightiliy) I'm sceptical about it being that. I would guess either backup camera, or perhaps a real theodolite with a built in range finder.
http://84.95.240.242/%7Ehnn/images/albums/1056_17262.jpg
I don't think this is a Command Post, more like Observation Post. Those are radio receivers setup with a PC to intercept radio comms. Again, very much adhoc, done in a hurry.
Probably got 2 so they can triangulate intercepts - doubtful they were looking to actually get Intel, just scanning for signals.

What's the story behind this photo? I didn't see a caption. Gotta love the Jewish hotties. Man, I want to go to Israel...Contrast that against the dour, cranky Massachusetts Staties walking around Logan... Figures, it's almost the most anti-gun state in the Union and yet when it comes time to militarize the police, they get sweet MP5SD love to carry around and intimidate people with. I'm glad I left.

Putin, whose approval rating in opinion polls is above 70 percent, has said repeatedly that the constitution should not be changed to allow him a third straight term, and indicated he will back a favored successor. That's a mighty powerful image:|
This man is Tomer Bohadana (32), a reserves company commander who was called to serve some two and a half weeks ago.
Shrapnel tore the main vein in his neck and the MEDEVAC team had to stop the bleeding by applying pressure to the wound... as you can see in the picture.
Tomer didn't lose consciessness throughout the whole flight that took over 10 minutes and we can all see what he did when he noticed the cameras.
This picture made it to the front pages of both of Israel's major newspapers.

That's the best I can do.
I think the white boxey thing is another laser mic system... possibly the laser system for the first part of a two part system, and then the cheaper one-unit mic for small things.
This isn't a command post, it's a surveillance outpost. (as far as i can tell.)
First of all there is nothing sophisticated here.
1. Collimator is a large zoom lense possibly able to see 2-3km.
2. The unit on top with a ? is the gear that drives the lense.
3. The white/silver cylinder below is a pan/tilt head that drives the camera left and right, up and down. It has slow moving motors for better control.
4. Behind the lense is a video camera that goes to those monitors at the back. I am guessing the camera is a low lux camera to work with the IR illumination box. Another guess would be it is black and white.
5. The whole unit is controled with a computer under software control or keyboard with joystick. The computer controls the zoom and pan/tilt.
6. The unit on the side on top in a white square box could a passive infra red illumination box as a cheap night vision system.
This setup is nothing. Backyard job. :)
