If they were Pol's it was the Polish mine clearing team (no ****). They had K-9's and pulled their weight throught the whole mission. They did NOT like the kids around them, and the kids knew it. LOL

No Polish jokes were told after the first Op we went on with them, other than the ones they told themselves. Beautiful dogs they handled too. Trying to find pics I have of them with dogs. Standby!!

Those two guys are actually medics. The one facing you is SF, the one in profile is from a support unit that was with us. They are both EMT’s in civilian life and one (profile) is a PA. Once a week we had an open MED tent for the locals. You wouldn’t believe some of the crap they brought in.

We had a man bring a baby girl in that was very sick. She had colic and several other common childhood ailments, all treatable. The man stood in front of us and said “if she dies, I will return for her body, if she lives, I do not want her, she is a girl and is too sick to be any good to me”. If I’m liyin’ I’m dyin’. We threw his ass out of the safe house before someone hurt him and airlifted her to Bagram. She ended up being fine but I can’t say that I know her final fate.

We arrested the guy who admitted throwing his kid in the fire, I don’t know for what, whatever it was it was enough to make him sit in a ****e shack with the door chained shut for a couple of days to “find some clarity”! A$$holes

Ahh yes, instant justice. Well, I guess that would put us at there level sorta, as much as would have liked to do it on occasion. We just found a reason to send them away if we really hated them. ;-)

First and foremost, THANK YOU for what you do and the pictures. I'm astounded at some of the stuff, real eye opener, but also shows what a great job you guys do.
Just out of curiosity, that's a MOLLE vest you have right Shrek?
Also do you have a regular forearm on the carbine because the Guard guys don't get all the high-speed stuff?

Catch22
03-31-2004, 12:47 PM
Hehe, does it mean you dont want to shave and like wearing old socks and heavy bergen in some far-from-home country, where people have certain strange dressing habits and threw their children into fire when angry?

Anyways, shrek - glad to have you around, really good tho have some first-hand insight on these ops.

shrek
03-31-2004, 01:09 PM
Yes, that is a MOLLE vest that I have on. It is truly the only piece of the MOLLE system that we found useful. If you notice in the pic of me and a friend, I have modified it slightly so that it is solid in the front and snaps together in the back, this brings all your ammo and heavy ****e to the front, helps when your riding in vehicles not to have stuff between you and the door (Trick I learned from the 75th Rngr dudes!)

The lack of a SOF-MOD kit on my M-4 was at first, yes, lack of gear, especially for guys like me that just re-upped. Later, as in this pic, it became a personal choice to leave it off. If you notice in some pics everyone but me has the broom handles on. I couldn’t get used to it and didn’t want to try that late in the game. I did however have to attach it for night ops, had no other way of attaching my IR laser.

Grupa Reagowania Operacyjno Mobilnego (GROM)

Poland's Operational Maneuver Reconnaissance Group (GROM) (also referred to as Thunderbolt) is the nation's elite Special Forces (SF) unit. Created 10 years ago to combat terrorist threats, the GROM is Poland's equivalent to the U.S. Delta Force and the British Special Air Service (SAS). GROM personnel undergo rigorous training and have gained international recognition through their participation in several multinational operations

Their culture says that no man should see the face of a woman that is past a certain age, at least the Talibans culture did. They were loosening up when we were there. The Russians were pretty rough on the women and I guess the older told the younger and made them scared of us. They were told and believed that we could see throught their clothing with our goggles. Yeah, I wish, some of them were spectacular!!!

Ibstolidude: No problem! I love any photos that anyone puts on here. BTW, I have stood exactly where that pic was taken from. There was a bunch of SOAR guys based out of there.

SOAR story: If we called for a helo exfil or medivac, sometimes instead of sending a helo all the way from Bagram they would send whichever helo was closest to us at the time. There was always a noticeable difference between pilots and their flight characteristics. “Regular” army pilots (fantastic in their own right) would fly from high, drop in on us and carry us out the same way. SOAR pilots were a little, well, “different”. We would hear them coming, someone would yell, “chopper comin’ in”, then we would all sit and stare and try to find it in the sky. We could hear it damnit, where the hell is it. Then, from below us!!! This huge friggin helo would come tearing ass out of the river bottom. Those crazy f..kers would come from below us in the valley bottom, pick us up and dive straight back down to fly out just feet above the river. Never knew why, seemed more dangerous to us, perhaps it was just the shock and awe of a CH-47 tearing ass down the river with that refueling probe sticking out like some huge jousting pole. Man, I’ve got chill bumps and a chubby just thinking about it!!!

p.s. OGA (Other Government Agency aka “Christians In Action”)

Favorite saying of a buddy of mine when he had to take a dump: “I got a jumper in the door” (Airborne)

“I got a jumper in the door” is better than having a "towed jumper"
