Hope this wasn't made before, I did a search and found nothing.
I thought it would be cool to have a thread where people will post photos, DVD caps, wallpapers (simply anything) of federal/military special units from various movies in which they appeared. To start, here are some pics of SWAT in the new version of Assault on Precint 13.

That movie would of ended when they got on the helo the first time. Where did she find lip gloss in the jungle? Black SEAL " These are my people"??! WTF!
It is a MOVIE ....what the hell is wrong with you people sometimes? If that is the only reason why you didn't like a FICTIONAL movie then you are an idiot.
All movies require a suspension of disbelief (some more than others) Has a great white ever sunk a good sized fishing boat the size of Quint's? Never but does that make jaws any less enjoyable?
Some times you guys are as bad as some chicks who nitpick when they read vogue....sheesh..
So what if she had lipgloss.... at least it isn't as bad as an actress who walks out of the desert after days with no water or food with a picture perfect hairdo
So what if the black SEAL said that....actually some african americans do feel a kinship with africans (some justifiable as they may only be a generation or two removed from africa....how do you know the character wasn't born in africa and is an immigrant?). Others might just be trying to look cool but one saying it isn't out of the realm of possibility.
The kicker is if the movie was as realistic as you seem to want you'd say damn that was a boring movie and entirely too short

Getting up on line and firing like that? WTF! I thought they were SEALs? What about fire and manuever? One lays down supressive fire while the other tries to flank. Tears of the Sun? As chalk leader you have comm with the pilots and you can help designate the LZ and where you want your people, but yah the pilot ultimately makes the final call until he flares and then its your show.

Yes. I was a Squad leader in the Marines and we had to talk with the pilot telling him where we wanted to be dropped off and what direction of the compass you want to come out of the helo. To tell the pilot like the way Willis(One of my fav actors) did, sh*t! The pilot would of been "STFU and sit the f*ck down!"

While their tactics may not have been accurate nor the chain of command in the chopper ..you have to realise the general public doesn't know or care...I'm glad it portrayed the military in a positive light...in most movies spec ops types get potrayed as overrated ****heads.....at least here they got a decent treatment character wise

Most SF units are on a first name basis... Because of the relaxed dress and deportment state... HOWEVER... Tears of the sun sucked. Using your drinking water to cool your head down??? Clearing villages with pistols??? If they are going to take suppressors for their pistols, they would have taken them for their long guns... And of course not grabbing that chick and extracting ASAP? Well all that doesn't make for very much realism, but of course that is Hollywood...

Yeah it wasn't meant as a sniper manual ;) But compared to the rest of the BS (like SEALs going to an unknown Arab country, killing thousands of enemies and blowing up everything to hell) it was a fairly good and realistic movie at the time

I know it's a MOVIE. Serving in the military has ruin war movies for me. I'm sure a doctor would nitpick a medical movies/show too.
I have black friends. I have NEVER heard them identifying with Africans. They don't even want to set foo tthere. The only black people who indentify with Africans are the ones who last name usually has one letter. They are mostly racial ambulance chasers too.
If the movie entertain you, great. It didn't do squat for me. I do have to agree with you that it did potray SF folks in a good light.

Clear and Present Danger is a really good movie. But the book is sooooooo much better. The firefight, when the teams want to extract at the end of the second mission or all the Pave Low action. All that nice stuff is missing in the movie. The book is so much more thrilling and detailed than the movie.
Btw I think in the book the teams in columbia didn't even use any equipment that could be tracked back to the US military. They only used stuff that was common in the region and wore genreic khaki uniforms.

Has a 3rd Battalion(I think 3rd) Scroll and a Ranger tab. No SF stuff. Really long hair for a Ranger though.

Yea, that was a pretty cool part of the book when they set up that ambush, f*cked up the mercs, than fall back, did the same, etc.
Also in the book Chavez wasn't a Sniper or SF(had a Ranger tab though), was a Squad Leader in the 7th ID an on that CIA mission was a Scout for his squad an only had the MP5SD.

Any SF movie looks pretty cool if the actors live and train for their part like what all the actors did in BHD.
How fun could it have been to train with SFOD-D? (sigh) Some guys are just plain lucky.
By the way, the first few minutes of Air Force One was pretty good, too, the way those guys swooped in on that roof. Probably took them under a minute to bag that guy and haul him up on the Black Hawk.

Terrible show. Not only in the fact that the acting and directing was miserable, but the storylines were trite, seterotypical, and superficial. And pretty much all of the plots and actions were unrealistic.

My bad.
Googled a couple and found these:
"Crash Course shows how the actors portraying both the US Army Rangers, the Delta Force and the chopper pilots all got there training from the real people. Each was sent to a different military base for one weeks worth of specific training. The Rangers got a modified boot camp/ranger introduction where they learned to move like rangers, fire weapons, and trained like the rangers. The Delta guys got more of a fun type of training in which they got to blow lots of stuff up with explosives and special weapons training. The chopper pilots got to try out a real helicopter simulator for there training."
"About 40 of the actors who were portraying Rangers were sent to Fort Benning to attend a two week crash course in becoming Rangers, 15 of the actors portraying Delta Operators were sent to Fort Bragg and were given a two week Commando Course by members of the 1st Special Warfare Training Group. Ron Eldard went to Fort Campbell and was given a lecture by Michael Durant (whom he portrays in the movie) and by several Little Bird and Black Hawk pilots. (Wikipedia)"

Then again, I found this:
"Eric Bana, who had packed on the poundage to portray "Chopper" Read, began shedding it as soon as he learned he had the role of "Hoot." In fact, Bana lost 35 pounds in three months, which involved weight training and what he called "a very strict, extremely boring insanity diet," which he would stick with throughout the entire four-month shoot. Recalls the actor, "I got as fit as I've ever been before going to Special Forces training, 'cause I knew that it could be severely embarrassing if I showed up in bad condition.
"Let's face it," Bana continues, "embarrassment is the key thing here! So luckily, orientation was almost exactly the opposite of what I expected. I was predicting some kind of horrendous physical torture, but it was very hands-on, extremely interesting and very specific. We got to learn some incredible things, some of which I can't even reveal."
Meeting actual Delta operators "helped in ways I couldn't have imagined," Bana says, "and not only in terms of learning tactics and weaponry. Since there were only three of us-me, William Fichtner and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau-we spent a lot of time with our eight instructors. We'd go out to dinner with them, hang out and really get to know them. They were very worldly, extremely well-read, incredibly intelligent and had an amazing sense of humor. It gave me the confidence to go with things for my character that I had been thinking about, but wasn't quite sure were relevant. And it also allowed for an on-screen ******* between Bill, Nikolaj and myself that was completely non-manufactured."
Willam Fichtner amusedly describes the difference between training with Delta and the bigger group of actors training with the Rangers. "Let me give you an example... the first day the actors were at Fort Benning with the Rangers, they were in a classroom. The first day we were at Fort Bragg, our instructors were saying 'See that door there? Let's blow it up.' It was a phenomenal experience. The three of us were sponges for the information. I would have paid money to go through that course."

Chicago Police Departments "SWAT" is indeed HBT, Hostage-Barricade-Terrorism.
I doubt it was HRT for the Feds in The Negotiator, more than likely Chicago FBI Field Office SWAT being portrayed. One give-away would be the response time, another being the type of gig it was, and another being the fact they were geared up unlike HRT...

No offence, but are you on the cans Mitch, or have you not seen the movie?
FBI turns up with their Field Office SWAT not far behind, and why wouldn't they when Sammy Jackson is out causing some mother ****ing snakes on a plane type shenanigan.
As for HBT being secret?
Most Departments have funky acronyms/mnemonics, not everyone gets around calling themselves "SWAT"....doesn't mean they're secret ninja squirrels... p-)

There was one scene I liked. The one where 2 of their guys had to hitch a ride on a private jet and did an insertion at night from altitude into the base.
Reminded me of a story once where Navy sailors were on a joint exercise at night with NSW in pitch black night and bad weather. Their mission was to guard the perimeter of a Naval base and keep the SEALs from sneaking in. They were ordered to stand guard around the perimeter of the fence facing outward and challenge anything that moved. The slightest tweak was met by over a dozen flashlights.
They didn't realize the SEALs were already inside the base for quite some time and found them fast asleep in the middle of the field still in their HAHO gear. They came in from the sky! :D
Thus, endeth the story. Good night, folks!

a classic indeed! one of the best portrays of SF in movies i've seen so far, including some precisely reenacted scenes:
- live-fire CQB range with instructor sitting in the crowd
- mountain E&E scene (not THAT good)
- hostage rescue scene (private home) complete with pre-mission intel gathering, wall breaching charge, and HT elimination
- the embasy assault scene was, as far as i personaly take it, a cinematic remake of operation nimrod. some of the stuff seen there was complete horse**** (shooting grenades while hanging on a rope attached to a moving helo? please...), otherwise it was a nice attempt.
