To be FAIR;-
1) It's not all Dell laptops.
2) Battery recalls have affected the following makes (only certain battery series - you check the battery model, not the laptop model);
a) Fujitsu-Siemens.
b) HP.
c) Compaq.
d) Toshiba.
3) At least they are actually offering a recall, unlike a certain make where the warranty lasts 6 months (yep, half as much as anyone else) and you are amazingly lucky if it lasts that long.
Nothing new about this problem.
my computer is good to go...so i guess i cant get a free replacement battery...damn them...my battery died 2 months ago

Why do you think batteries are considered a "consumable"? It's like printers, that's where the profits are (for printers, it's ink of course).
Only take so many charges and discharges at the best of times.

Will do. I wanted to have it finished before I go to school but I'll probably have to wait until I come home for a weekend or something.

Don't encourage him.

I could personally go for one of Gypsum's recordings of Macs. I think this would be a good opportunity for Macs to call Dell's Indian Tech support about the battery from his 1995 HP notebook.....

Wouldn't they just tell him to phone HP?

Not with the way Macs talks to people. He could keep them on the phone about something like that for 30 minutes, easily. Hell, he could probably confuse them enough to get their shift manager on the phone.

i actually saw a video of one of these batteries blowing up on another forum i frequent...and it led to a lenghty discussion about how much damage it would cause if one went off in a confined space such as an aircraft cabin or coffeeshop... and the conclusion wasnt exactly pleasant.
well i am glad they are recalling this, even though my comp isnt affected. my model is the dell c640 ....i have had it since march
This is why they are recalling them.
