Al-Jazeera Poisons the Arab Mind

By Cliff Kincaid | August 18, 2006

Yet Al-Jazeera International is spreading into the U.S. and other Western countries, and the White House and U.S. Congress do nothing.

One of the despicable things about the Al-Jazeera Arabic television channel is that it obtained exclusive interviews with the architects of 9/11 and knows the truth about what happened on that tragic day and yet it continues to spread the fiction that it was the U.S. Government itself which carried out the attacks and blamed them on Muslims.

Al-Jazeera knows the truth but wants to obscure it. This is the mark of a dishonest “news” network.

The results were evident in a recent Pew poll (http://pewglobal.org/reports/display.php?ReportID=253) on how Muslims view the 9/11 terrorist attacks. In countries like Indonesia, Egypt, Turkey, and Jordan, majorities of Muslims polled said Arabs had NOT carried out the attacks. In Pakistan, 41 percent said Arabs did not do it. In Nigeria the figure was 47 percent saying Arabs did not do it. A total of 56 percent of British Muslims said that Arabs were not responsible for 9/11. Very small percentages were prepared to accept that Arabs were behind 9/11.

The Al-Jazeera.net website, which is connected to the Arabic channel, has perpetuated the notion that Arabs had nothing to do with 9/11 by running stories about the 9/11 “truth” movement and 9/11 “revisionists,” as if they have something legitimate to offer to the debate.

Consider this story (http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/CDCC04E2-8DE8-4625-B380-DD74EC0F3AC9.htm), based on a “9/11 Truth” conference held recently in Los Angeles and broadcast on C-SPAN. The story noted, “The 9/11 and the Neo-Con Agenda conference comprised two days of seminars, video presentations and talks by groups including Scholars for 9/11 Truth, infowars.com and an appearance by Charlie Sheen, the actor.” It referred to the panelists having “decried the official version of the September 11 attacks.”

But the “official version” has been provided by none other than Al-Jazeera, whose reporter, Yosri Fouda, interviewed the architects of 9/11. They were Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, al-Qaeda operations chief for the 9/11 attack, and Ramzi bin Al-Sheeba, head of al Qaeda’s military committee and a former roommate of Mohammed Atta, leader of the 9/11 suicide hijackers. The interviews have been described as the most detailed and indisputable confirmation of al Qaeda’s responsibility for 9/11. Fouda’s book about the interviews is titled, Masterminds of Terror: The Truth Behind the Most Devastating Terrorist Attack the World Has Ever Seen.

Fouda’s investigation determined that 18 of the 19 hijackers on 9/11 made videotapes about their plans to die in attacks on America. Four of the videotapes were aired on Al-Jazeera.

Nevertheless, the Al-Jazeera website has featured a story about a 9/11 “revisionist,” with the word “revisionist” in quotes, who believes “the attacks were the result of a conspiracy designed to cause war in the Middle East.” The revisionist, an instructor at the University of Wisconsin named Kevin Barrett, “believes U.S. officials orchestrated the September 11, 2001 attacks…”
The Al-Jazeera story quoted university provost Patrick Farrel as saying that the university “does not endorse Barrett’s theories” but that “they are widely believed in parts of the Muslim world.”

That’s true mainly because of Al-Jazeeera, which continues to spread this poison despite the documentary evidence developed by its own reporter about the Arab role in 9/11.

A photo was included with the story showing the Twin Towers in flames. The caption said, “Many in the Muslim world believe that 9/11 was a US conspiracy.”
Again, that’s true. But they believe that because of the influence of Al-Jazeera. The channel could set the record straight and tell the truth but it prefers to spread disinformation for the purpose of inciting hatred of America. This channel is deliberately spreading disinformation to damage America and make more Americans into potential terror victims.

Yet Al-Jazeera International is spreading into the U.S. and other Western countries, and the White House and U.S. Congress do nothing.

I check out Al Jazeera online now and again. It seems to be a pretty good news site. I've read some pretty well balanced articls. I'd be interested in seeing the articles Mr Kincaid has a problem with. I'm not sure what the fuss is about.

is to demonize the Muslims, so he needs to repress their views.

Last thing he wants is for us to understand that it isn't just irrational hatred that drives anti-west sentiment.

How long would Israel's war have been allowed to continue if American audiences had seen those charred bodies or dead babies? How long would most Western viewers have remained silent if they were exposed to the kind of images shown daily on the Arabic satellite channels? Might we then start to understand why they hate us -- and more usefully why we should hate ourselves?

So, if I get it right, A-J published one article talking about US and arabs revisionists (actually using that word)... How does this make poisonning the arab mind? I call that journalism.
Then I guess that AIM.org (site from which this article is taken from) talking about Ward Churchill makes this site holocaust revisionist

The Onion is the best!

But let me get this straight, if you have an opinion or a news source other
than CNN or MSNBC you're a retard? Okay. Got it.

The English version of Al-Jezeera probably has different articles from the Arabic version and I am sure the Arabic version is a bit more biased.

But poisoning people’s minds? Of Course – Fox news, CNN, BBC etc. all do the same exact thing and Al-Jezeera is no different.

It’s a network whose target audience is Arabs / Muslims. So why would they ever broadcast pro-western, anti-Muslim news?

So if Accuracy In Media is a media watchdog, who exactly watches the watchdog? When they start issuing such vitriolic, childish denouncements against a large and established news organization, I begin to wonder ever so slighty about AIM's impartiality.

The real Al Jazeera site is www.aljazeera.net. The article says "Al-Jazeera.net" which would be incorrect. There are plenty of these spoof sites out there designed to fool people. And yes, the English and Arabic sites run different articles. They do this to appeal to their respective target audiences, but for the most part articles are translated accurately. e.g. they don't change "kill the western infidels" in an Arab article to "befriend the wonderful white people" in the English version. And like any news organization in need of ratings:they're going to go to where the controversy is, even if they have to spin a story.

Yes, and how long would a reverse John Cook be allowed to write what he does from the belly of the beast if he were to live in Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, or even Jordan?

:)

There's plenty of anti - government orgs. in the countries you listed.

They're harassed but the government but so are the Jewish orgs. in Israel that try to promote equal rights for Arabs.

When I search in Google news and there is a link to Al Jazz normally is a OK story ... I would not think of it as biased ...

As for the Arab version ... remains to be seen ... I have no clue

This happens on both sides guys, just ignore it as best as you can and focus on the more reliable sites (reliable sites in GENERAL not just the ones mentioned here)
