Excerpt from militarymorons.com:

Moisture-wicking fabric torso - Made of 81% Performance Polyester and 19% Elastine. The colour is an olive green, and the material is very soft and smooth to the touch. It's form fitting, and is donned pullover-style. An ultra-lightweight, non-itch American Merino wool torso version for cold weather will be available.

My thoughts are with the recent stories of Under Armor products fusing to soldiers' skin when exposed to extreme heat from IED's or other explosives, would it be a good idea for Crye to possibly rethink their position in creating the torso area of this shirt in plastic components? That is of course with the hypothetical thought of the Combat Shirt going into service with the US Military, or possibly by private purchase by PMC's or Spec Ops personel. Discuss.

Go ahead and say it like you mean it RGRBOX, you don't have to sugar-coat it for anyone here. p-)

Personally, I wear a helly-hanson baselayer if it's cold. But there's no way I'd wear one when working with helicopters or on ops. I just don't like the idea of being shrink-wrapped. I wear an issue 'Shirt ECW', which is just a green long lohn top that is issued, and is rather crap.

Although for very cold condititions, the merino wool job sounds great!

Well this is what happens when sporting goods companies cash in on the Global War On Terror pork barrel....

The problem with polyster and other artificial fabrics melting, fusing to the skin, etc. first really came to light during the Falklands Conflict back in 1982. Many of the troops deploying to the area didn't receive cold weather gear from the QM becuase there wasn't enough to go around - also, the issue stuff at the time was designed for the dry cold of the Arctic, not the wet cold of the South Atlantic. So many of the troops went out and bought civilian stuff - and many suffered horrific burns as result.

Obviously, this minor fact has been overlooked. Wool is still the best material for defeating the cold - dry or wet - and it doesn't melt to your skin or drip burning blobs into your flesh either.

I don't think chairman mao suits or PVC jackets were designed at all! p-)

I've heard comments like this before, and I'm curious about Crye's reputation - my only dealing with them was in 2004. They delivered what I ordered on time, and the quality was excellent.

Apparently my experiences put me in the minority...

Sadly James your all by yourself or one of a few... I had ordered a set of the field uniform. I got it.. washed it in cold water, and hung it to dry.. it shrank so bad in the waist, and the ass, I looked like a strip danser without a g-strig with it on.. I sent it back to them, after I called and they said OK.. they have yet to send me my replacement pants.. and I've spoken to them about it on the phone.. So I for one, am an unhappy client.. or should I say was a client.. I will never by anything from them ever again.. not for me or for my business.. I have found some other companies out there who makes uniforms with the mulitcam,, and I will be using them.. and they send you what you order. and the cut is correct..

I don't like the low-cut pants. The make a Shirt to tuck it in the pants but it only get tucked into the pants for lik 2-3cm because of the low-cut. If you ****e or crawl .9 out of 10 the shirt is out the pants again.

On the shirt I had to stitch some buttom holes and the Condura elbow pats...because they where cumming loose...and that after a few airsoftskirm :s ..... Don't think they are good enough for real life (or the ones I got where made on a monday)... But I like the fabric.

another downside....Price $$$$$ :s

I didn't ask why you hated Crye so much, I asked what your thoughts were on the torso area of the shirt. Stay on topic.
