EASY MAN... how about editing post instead of locking whole topic?
This one is particularly interesting since yugoslavia is very known producer of midget submarines and is one of leading countries in this... (I am serious).

The Balkans are a valuable source for military education. I know a lot more than probably all the non-Balkan members about this war and I am learing a lot from the postings. I think it's time people put their jaded politics aside and enjoy the gifts that these Balkan members post for us.
That said, I am curious to know if Serbia maintained their navy commando force? I know there was a unit under the Tito government, but the Croatians aborbed most of the sea power.
Yes.. sorry (it's been a very long day), I had the wrong dictator before;-) Both great unifiers though, eh!

Serbian Subs

UNA class midget (88 ton M100D design)

Just for clarity's sake, the pictured sub is not Serbian. It was a former Yugoslavian Navy Una-class submarine, but it was captured in 1991 and after refitting entered Croatian Navy service in 1997 as the Velebit. The Croatians apparently have another Una-class sub being refitted, but I don't know whether it has entered service.
Here is another picture of the Velebit, apparently taken on the same day:

Yes, the Serbian and Montengrin Navy maintains its naval diversionary unit and also has a UDT capability. BTW, Croatia absorbed most of the coastline and ports, but most naval vessels remained in the VJ's hands.

Because certain people seem intent on fighting the Balkan wars as keyboard commandos. While it might be preferable in the abstract to just delete offending threads, often it just puts the moderators in the position of having to chase after the whiny miscreants. So, sometimes it is more prudent to simply be proactive rather than reactive.

Unless I am mistaken, the Serb-Montinegrin Navy (Ratna Mornarica) still has the most historically significant Naval Base of Cattaro, Kotor, former base of the K&K Austro-Hungarian Kriegsmarine and German U-Boats. In addition to Kotor, several subsidiary facilities are located at Tivat, Meljine, Djenovici and Bar. I don't know if Kumbor and Ulcinj still exist. The River Flotilla is based in Novi Sad.

Its my opinion that in today's world, Serbia & Montenegro does not need a "navy".
At best, a good coast guard - lots of smaller, modern, ultra-fast ships that are capable of catching those cigaratte-smuggling high-speed boats that cross the Adriatic daily, for example.

At best, a good coast guard - lots of smaller, modern, ultra-fast ships that are capable of catching those cigaratte-smuggling high-speed boats that cross the Adriatic daily, for example. The VCSG's navy seems to have shifted its focus to riverine patrol, mine warfare and anti-smuggling (as you note). They seem to have scrapped any amphibious capability and have no need for larger surface combatants.
Kotor Bay remains the main base (and only deep water port). The bay's access channel is overlooked by the Prevlaka Peninsula, which remained in dispute until December 2002, when Yugoslavia (now Serbia and Montenegro) and Croatia agreed to Croatian sovereignty but guarantees of Yugoslavian access. The accord also provided for joint Croatian and Yugoslavian naval patrols.
BTW, does anyone know if the two Rade Konćar class missile patrol boats shown above are still in VSCG service? I assume the RT406 is, by the picture of it on the VSCG website from He219's post above. However, it (and the RT404, if still in service) likely have different names. The RT404 was commissioned the Hasan Zahirović Lasa and the RT406 the Ante Banina. I'm not sure but believe all ships of the class were named after Yugoslav partisan heroes of World War II, with each ship representing a different nationality of the former Yugoslavia. They were the Rade Konćar (?), the [V.] Cvetković (Serb), the Ramiz Sadiku (Albanian), the Hasan Zahirović Lasa (Bosnian Muslim), the Jordan Nikolov-Orce (Macedonian), and the Ante Banina (Croatian). Ironically, the ship named after a Serb is now in the Croatian Navy (renamed the Šibenik, I think).
