The pictures from the Midlothian Standoff show quite a few Police Officers NOT wearing Body Armor. That is pretty sad.

In the U.S. the vast majority of police officers wear body armor under their shirts. Look at the pic above your post - the officer on the right with his back to the camera is clearly wearing a vest.

The names are listed on the walls of a towering memorial complex that was built as a respect of the dead. An X-ray of Kamil Abdel Qader's lungs show a lower third that is entirely scarred -- lasting damage from the poisonous gas that rained down on Halabja. Doctors say he needs to get a fist-size chunk of tissue removed from his damaged lungs if he is going to survive, but he still considers himself the lucky one. I love the Police waterboy...

You would love him even more when you are having bullets fly over your head and you are dehydrated.

If not him, how else would water get to the people who need it.

Stupid question - are whites allowed to take part in any Maori ceremonies?

Yes, I spent 3 months in New Zealand and lived with a Maori tribe for about half of that time. During which there were ceremonies in which I was able to participate

The Marine Corps War Memorial is seen in Arlington, Va., Monday, Aug. 21, 2006. Joe Rosenthal, The Associated Press photographer who won a Pulitzer Prize for his immortal image of World War II servicemen raising an American flag over battle-scarred Iwo Jima, has died. He was 94. Rosenthal's iconic photo, shot on Feb. 23, 1945, became the model for the Iwo Jima Memorial near Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. The memorial, dedicated in 1954 and known officially as the Marine Corps War Memorial, commemorates the Marines who died taking the Pacific island in World War II. (AP Photo/Pablo Martinez Monsivais)

All of DPS is changing over to the M4, the Dallas region is just one of the last ones that hasent done the transition training over to the Bushmaster yet. Mini-14s were good guns also, every Trooper got a chance to buy theirs from the dept.

this isnt a cluster bomb, but an unexploded hand grenade - and it doesnt look like the type of grenades IDF uses.

M26 frag grende, like the one IDF uses:

Hezbullah's captured grenades:
http://www.hnn.co.il/images/albums/1004_16729.jpg
notice that the one on the right with black tape on it is also an M26, but with english writed on it, unlike IDF's grenades which have Hebrew writed on them (couldnt find a picture of one).

looks to me like the picture was staged. its unlikely that a grenade (or even a cluster bomb, if it was one) would stand on the ground that way.

Stupid question - are whites allowed to take part in any Maori ceremonies?

1. We don't use the term 'whites'. We use Pakeha (Pah-ke-ha). Although not everyone is happy with that term, it isn't derogatory.

2. Yes, Pakeha are allowed to take part in Maori ceremonies.

Although you would be expected to take it seriously and show respect. Over the years several tourists have shown disrespect at Maori cultural displays and been dealt with accordingly. The last incident involved a Dane who made fun of a warrior during a Powiri and got his jaw broken with a Taiha as I remember.

Yes, I spent 3 months in New Zealand and lived with a Maori tribe for about half of that time. During which there were ceremonies in which I was able to participate

You "lived" with a tribe?

I don't see anything unusual. To me it looks exactly like a bomblet.

You can also see the white strip of cloth that stabilises the bomblet when falling, ensuring it hits the ground with the charge pointing down (just like in the picture). And i'm sure they can be found in all kinds of positions.

Here is one for comparison:

You beat me to it.

Bomlets are designed to fall base first, so it's highly likely that that's exactly where it landed. Why would someone be so stupid as to mark a spot and then move it - or vice versa?

Are you trying to imply that the IDF/IAF don't use bomblet munitions or that they are anything like 100% effective?

Why is the USMC using Geländewagens?

The Humvee is a very large vehicle which makes it inpractical for putting in helicopters so lots of US light infantry units such as marines or Rangers use smaller 4 wheel drive vehicles. I know the US rangers often use Land Rovers.

You obviously have no idea what a logistical nightmare any form of military deployment is. The amount of stuff that needs to be transported to the troops is greater than most people think. We are talking about ammo, spare parts, medical supplies, food, water, ect ect.

Sure the Isreali army didn't advance that far, but I'm sure they also didn't have a wharehouse full of supplies next to the border that had enough stuff stored in it to supply all troops involved in the operation. And there will also be mistakes like food sent to the wrong place and stuff like that. In theory it's not that difficult, but real-life has a tendency to ruin your plans.

The fact that some troops were sent in without enough food is simply something you'll allways see in the beginning of a campaign that didn't have enough time for preperations. And I think Isreal was also a bit supprized by the strong resistance of hezbollah and had to sent more troops than initially planned. If the campaign had lasted longer you would have seen that such supply issues are solved in time.

@about the HMMWV/G-wagen issue;
The HMMWV is a very wide vehicle and especially in europa and Afghanistan the HMMWV is too wide for many roads and towns. It simply can't get you everywhere. That's why g-wagons are used. The landrovers of the rangers is indeed so they can drive them in and out of the MH-47's (something you obviously can't do with a HMMWV)

thanks, He219.
here's another type of a cluster bomb in Lebanon that was fired by the IDF:

neither one looks like the one it the photo which I belive that was staged.
