View Full Version : Beer, beer is good...

Right now, I am drinking large quantities of beer. Why you ask? well, my Father, who was a Korean and Vietnam veteran passed on 2 and half weeks ago after a battle with cancer. He served 31 glorious years in the Army. Buried in Arlington with full Military honors. The Old Guard did a fine and outstanding job. I am not asking for sympathy, so no posts on that...ok. Honestly, I don't know why I'm posting this. I guess the realization that a living legend can be struck down is overwhelming. To live through all that he has, only to be taken by a disease. Bullets couldn't get him, shrapnell couldn't get him, the enemy couldn't get him...but cancer got him...And now he is gone.

My condolences to you and your family. My father passed in 92 and I felt the same way about him. My one consolation at the time was that I drove all night to make sure he met his Granddaughter before he died. He got to hold her before he died a few hours later.
It will pass. I'll drink one with you in his honor.

Everyone grab an alcoholic beverage and raise a toast...
"May you be in heaven a half hour
before the devil knows you're dead."
It's the ****tyness of life, it happens all the time. Like someone getting home from a 12-month tour and then dying in a car accident... It's always sad, and seems so incredibly unfair :| ... Still, be happy that in the end he lived long enough to die of cancer instead of bullets. Here's to veterans! woot May they live a long and peacefull life...whereever that might be.
RIP, my condolences.

Here, here, this toast is for those that have come before us and fought for us. For those that bled for us and those that died for us. For those that served for us and those that WILL serve for us. Your father is like many of those of the WWII generation, a dying one. Most of us will never know what it was like to go through the two wars that he went through and for that I respect him, even though I dont know him. My condolences to you and your family Uncle Sam, and RIP to your father.

Yeah Leffe is quite (it's a belgian beer so what would you expect) good. Which reminds me I need to put some in the fridge for later tonight :)

My grandfather died of cancer too, he was a belgian vet in Korea, i've read a book of a guy who was in his unit, he was well respected.
He took shrapnel from a grenade in his neck but was still on the radio transmitting.
He made it trough that and made my dad.
I'll drink to all the vet's out there.
cheers
percell
ps: I work in the 'leffe cafe' in belgium :)
