Once a Boy

Rugged boots cast treads on foreign land
Water from the sky hardens soft sand
The heavens are shaken, foreshadowing doom
Sorrowful dark overcast covers the moon

The landscape erupts with green streaks of light
Orders are screamed and obeyed in fright
Trying to escape the searing pain
Attempting to run but soaked with rain

A platoon in chaos

A world still unmoved;
Not certain of what’s being proved

And yet, behind one rifle is a young man’s face
Who struggles to recall the tranquil place
Where innocence was once able to hide…

But now the fragility of his youth has died.

ODE TO A JUNEBUG

Whence thou commeth, O insectival one,
Who's density and mass are likened unto the cannon ball?

Thine hectic flight acheived through spastic navigation,
Thine destination cared for or known of by not a soul but thee.

Beneath mine quarters hind, mine trusty iron steed doth labor and roar with fevered pitch,

Betwixed mine eyes dids thou striketh me,
