yop, last year(?) brits charged insurgent ambushing a convoy, killed or bayonnetted few, there was a thread about it somewhere

Theres a book about the British in Iraq that is all about the battalion which those soldiers who used the bayonets came from. Theres a whole section of the book documenting that specific battle.

"Bayonets fixed, the assault began. Private Fowler, W22's gunner, sluiced accurate fire on to the nearest position. Given the nature of the ground and the position of the fire support Corporal Byles and Lance Corporal Wood had to assault frontally, with W22 keeping pace with them over perhaps 300 meters, until it could no longer depress its turret far enough to engage the trenches.

The little group of dismounts then split up and used pairs fire and manouevre to break into the position; grenades, automatic fire and bayonets were used to clear it."

It goes on to say they took 2 more postions but I can't be bothered typing anything else.
