We had quite a discussion about this awesome aircraft in the V-22 thread but I thought I would post it here instead of page 6 of an old thread.

Great vid GM. A stunning bit of engineering. The stress on those rotors must be incredible, and the hydraulics state of the art. Great piece of flight control software. Shyte music though.

the last time I was at a joint FTX at Pendleton there were two V-22s flying in formation pretty low over the training area. (by one of the MOUT towns)
btw I just found out my PSG is an ex-marine. pretty cool. he doesn't really seem like a marine though, pretty down to earth

that thing would dominate as a gunship, i hear the marines version os going to have a .50 on the rear ramp though.
i think they should put some Vulcans and howitzers on the side of the fuselage, face them down to the rear though so they dont knick the blades, or just fire when the blades are tilted up

Isn't it bad juju to say you're a Marine before you've finished basic? If I was a Marine I'd want to bitchslap you.

Thanks for the article about the M-240. I do believe the rear mounted gun will provide a fair share defensive capabilites...if the enemy is to the rear. I am sure the modifications would be difficult, but how about a helmet mounted targeting system like an apache or supercobra (I think they have that capability :-| ) with a similar under nose mounted chain gun or appropriate weapon.
Iam looking forward to a modified version of the Osprey. Wonder where they will mount MG's.
