11.8 kg is the mass with the tripod. The tripod itself is 4.2 kg.

Nice looking weapon. Looks like a mixture of the Minimi and the PKM. For all the stick China gets for copying weapon systems, they can still crank out pretty good looking indigenous designs.

hhmmm... well ..!!
1: the barrell does not look as if it can be changed (legs mounted)
2:if you cant change the barrell it will last minuits before it gets shoot through..
3:why bring out such a heavy gun and put a small round that does not have a great deal of stopping power in it...
4:check out the long pencil thin cocking handle... ha ha ha .. weak..!!
....... BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD.. IT LOOKS CRUD AND SOUNDS CRUD.....

Tripod? So the lmg without the bipod in the pictures would have a weight of 7.6 kg ? Or do you mean the bipod weights 4.2 kg?
Also why is it called a GPMG? 5.8mm is the equivalent to 5.56mm, isn't it?
Ahem even without tripod it's too heavy for a 5,8mm MG. Russian PKM is a 7,65x54 GPMG and weights only 8 kg. With 60s technology, without any modern lightweight plastic stuff.
With 5,8mm ist's more an overweight SAW then GPMG.

Yeah, Pretty heavy considering a Mag58/Gimnpy is 10.9 and a Minimi/C-9 is about 6.2 and around 9-10kg with a 200rd belt box on it.
Mind you whats the cartridge length? Cause nato 7.62 is 51mm so the chinese might have some big ass cartridge to push the rd along, requiring a heavier gun to control it all.
Either that or its just to damn heavy, Spose thats what happens when a Minimi and a Pk get it on and have a love child

I don't know any morden MG that cannot change barrell. Legs are not mounted on the barrel. Minimi has a similar structure.

It is 7.6 kg with a bipod and uses a heavier version of the 5.8mm ammunition which can match the 7.62x39 ammo even over 600m

PKM is 8.99kg with a bipod. Minimi SAW is 6.9 kg, but Type 88 has a longer barrel (600mm vs. 465mm) and larger caliber.

No 5.xx mm weapon will ever be a GPMG, its an LSW.

Interesting weapon, I wonder how the accuracy and barrel performance is compared to the Minimi, Ultimax 100 and the MG4.

similar, if you look at the photo on the first page you will notice that the bipod is directly under the gas block, so unless there are pics with different view it looks like barels is not replaceble easyly
on the above pic notice that bi pod is behind gas block, the gas tube is drectly behind gas block and the bipod wraps around the entry hole

Firstly, have you ever seen an M60? Just because the bipod is mounted to the barrel doesn't mean that the barrel isn't changable. Secondly, the setup looks almost identical to the PKM, which has a changable barrel.
nice i like it :)
There is allot of interesting weapon being made in chine right now.
Btw here is the new assault rifle (TYPE 03)

According to some Chinese military sites this is a image of the Type 88 with the barrel removed. I don't know that much about guns so I'll let the experts make of it what they will.

Just cause of the lack of some parts i.e. butt group, pistol grip, carry handle, bipod or sights, It appears to be a veh mounted version in a turret by its self or as a coax. The wire with the loop is like the ones we have on our "fixed"/coax Mag 58s in our Lav3s for cocking them, Like the picture our coax/fixed 58s don't have sights, butt, pistol grip or a bipod.
They don't need these parts as they are mounted in a turret or wpn station.
What some guys are trying to say about removeable barrels is the point that it can easily be done, Its bloody hard to change barrels on a gun when the bipod is fixed to the barrel, you take the barrel off and the gun falls over like the original M60
Looks like the stoner 63.

But I plan to be in the army. But I do have little experience with firearms, mostly pistols and light rifles.

I once held that weapon in my arms. It's damn heavy! But once you're lying on the ground with it it gives an awesome feeling to lay your finger on the trigger.

The FN-MAG can be a b1tch if you don’t know how to use the gas regulator right. If you use to low gas pressure the weapon gone die and if you use to high pressure then you wont hit anything because the weapon is shaking to much.
But still it’s a great weapon and I love the sound of it

As long as you balance the weapon before and conduct the correct gas stoppage drills when needed there's no problem.
It's a fantastic weapon, I love the gimpy. As for the weight, I'd rather lump a gpmg around than a minimi (para). You can't hit jack with a short minimi beyond 3-400m. With a gimpy you can squeeze off 2-3 rounds at anything 800m or less and watch it fall, superb!

Thanks for the picture mate. And she looks real great I did notice that she use the old type of ammo link that don’t fall apart after shooting. And if you ask me does are the best because you can reload the ammo link by hand :)
