dredger14 if you can put some kind of caption with the pictures it would be much better. Pictures without captions are like deaf and mute people.

I think they are from the Mig-29 induction ceremony.

Holy crap, I did not relize how small the T-90 is or any other Russian based unit is compared to the western counterpart or alike. It must not only be cramped but I know for myself, clusterphobia would kick in.

Thats fanboy talk. The IA needs a lota improvement esp the individual soldier, his weapon systems and his equipment. Just compare the regular US soldier and the most elite of Indian soldier be it the IA , AF or NAVY( in terms of firepower and the stuff he carries) we are miles behind.

What i mean by the NEXT DECADE, by around 2020... :cantbeli: Try to be concentrate on words written... :bash:
Indian armed forces are currently going through on a major up gradations... Talking on the firepower and stuffs, the army starts their program named as F-INSAS ( do google) by 2012 and expected to be completed in 2020... So by that period the regulars of IA will LOOK LIKE US soldier.... p-)

Russian tanks use auto-loader so it has a 3 man crew instead of the four in U.S tanks.

Weapons, munitions, tactics. I am sure they will be hiring or loan service.
I know some US SOF that train in the north.

Indian SF are one of the best trained Men in the world ! ....Indian Para S.F are best in their own methods in Counter insurgency, Marcos S.F in Navy are quite capable and can be compare to U.S navy seals..

Beside all these, there is a Special Anti-terrorist branch called NSG under Home Ministry, they usually participate in GSG9 and SAS exercises.

Indian S.F always keep up with the time, There is very less pic and knowledge released to outside world, Which do cause confusion about its capabilities !!

Thanks for the Knowledge about W.M.T !! :)

sad news

According to the air force officials two people were on board the chopper when it came down. However, nobody was seriously injured.

Eyewitnesses said the aircraft was flying in military formation when a fire began in the back portion of the helicopter and it started to spiral toward the ground. Firemen arrived at the scene immediately and extinguished the flames.

I really like the Knee and Elbow caps of the American soldiers, Little things like that may help in the battlefield.

Just look at US soldiers, How heavy they are !!.... Our soldiers are light weighted which offers them flexibility !!...... In Kashmir, leh, Rajasthan our soldiers are just doing fine.... Each individual got ammo packs , food packs, communication gagets, and other important life essential equipments.....

What need to be replaced is Pitu bag, body armour !!
What need is a rifle like Tar-21 ( Bullpup Insas ) !

Ps. I consider them show offs !!

its not a question of being miles behind, its mroe a matter of budgets and of course political will.

The main idea is that if it is good enough to defeat the Pakistani army its good enough for India.

The Idea is changed now !!.. Indian Army is seriously observing PLA and upgrading itself..

.

1 It just a little sad to see the men guarding the country not equipped well.

2 One thing though the SPG sure had a very quick modernisation program guess thats coz they guard the Gandhis

3 and yes we all know about the F-INSAS program the program that will make every IA soldier wear a "Pipboy 3000"!

1 Yes true, but soon we will be better !

2 SPG is a very small organization, it is easy to upgrade it, where as army is huge, it requires time.. Improvement in 8th para SF is impressive !!

3 F- INSAS is a very complex system it requires more than a decade to finish !! " PIPBOY 3000" may look practical in 2025 !!

I think the U.S soldiers also get their personal training regimes so they are much better built to carry around the extra weight. Things like knee and elbow caps can't weigh that much.

Light body had many advantages over heavy body, For example during long march with full loads or in jungle or in desert a heavy body get fatigue quicker than a light body plus a heavy body requires more water than a light one !
In Indian army a solider on desert is allowed to drink not more than 50 to 60 ml water per mile... If the same goes for a U.S marine or Regular Solider, than i would agree over keeping a big body!

Knee and elbow caps don't weight much but on field they are burden !!
It is just an extra accessory which dont have any practically use....

BMP Light Tank ( DRDO )

An expenditure of Rs 26.79 lakh was incurred in modifying BMP (BOEVYA MACHINA PEKHOTA) vehicle as Light Tank with 90 mm turret, without properly assessing availability of BMP chassis for production. It was also stated that the expenditure being incurred on development of Light Tank with 105 mm turret would also prove infructuous as the Army (http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/india/bmp-t.htm#) did not have any requirement for the Light Tank either with 90mm or 105mm turret. Despite this DRDO continued with the project for another seven years and closed it in August 1996 after successful trails, incurring a total expenditure of Rs 4.53 crore.

Based on a GSQR projected by the Army in 1976, a project for ‘Design and Development of Light Tank on BMP-I’ was sanctioned in 1983 at an estimated cost of Rs 2.54 crore. In July 1985, the Army reassessed their requirement and held that no light tank on BMP was necessary. Nevertheless, the development of light tank continued. Furthermore, notwithstanding their earlier stand, the Army continued to be associated with the project. Based on suggestions of Army authorities, in October 1988, CVRDE (Combat Vehicle Research and development (http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/india/bmp-t.htm#) Establishment) amended the contract agreement, replacing 90mm turrets with 105mm turrets.

In April 1992, the project was transferred to VRDE, Ahmednagar from CVRDE. In May 1993, eight years after they had first so stated, the Army categorically reiterated that there was no requirement for light tank. In spite of SA to RM (Scientific advisor to Raksha Mantri) also recommending closure of the project in February 1994, the Establishment went ahead with firing trials for another two years. Finally, in August 1996, 10 years after the original PDC (Probable date of completion) and having incurred an expenditure of Rs 4.53 crore including foreign exchange (http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/india/bmp-t.htm#) of Rs 2.91 crore, the project was closed.

R&D HQ stated in November 2000 that cancellation of the contract for 105 mm turret was found not economical and hence the project was continued to take it to a logical conclusion. However the fact remained that R&D efforts and moneyhttp://kona.kontera.com/javascript/lib/imgs/grey_loader.gif
(http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/india/bmp-t.htm#) was spent on an equipment the need for which had ceased to exist.

http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/india/bmp-t.htm

Ps. BMP tank ( 90mm) make more sense in terms of light tank operating in north east !! , Striker is big expensive, vehicle !!

Ps. BMP tank ( 90mm) make more sense in terms of light tank operating in north east !! , Striker is big expensive, vehicle !!

It's a matter of size; the R-60 and R-73 are too big and heavy for more than two to be carried by the Dhruv, quite likely also precluding the carriage of other stores. See photos of the Ka-52 carrying the R-73 and you'll get the point. On the other hand the physical characteristics of the Mistral allow up to four to be carried in addition to other weapons.

Oh, and if the R-60s were on a Czech Hind (http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/9243/wwwfotogalerialietadlac.jpg), that was just a ground crew stunt, as the AAMs could not be fired, and even if they could, the rocket motor blast would damage the ATGM launch rail aft fittings.

I found one pic of the interior.

The Tank-Ex will offer a huge leap in ergonomics and compartment space when compared to the conventional T-72, thanks to the implementation of the Arjun's crew station design. A crew of four, including the driver, is now carried. 32 rounds of FSAPDS and HESH ammunition are carried, with 18 ready rounds in the rotating turret. Tank-Ex is yet to enter user trials.

An Indian Army soldier lowers a flag at sunset at the Tawang War Memorial, made in the memory of 2,420 Indian soldiers who lost their lives in the 1962 India-China war, in Tawang, in the northeastern Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh, Friday, Nov. 6, 2009. Buddhist monks and nuns spruced up their monasteries and hung up welcome banners and prayer flags Friday in anticipation of the Dalai Lama's contentious visit to this remote Indian town near the Tibetan frontier. China has strongly protested the Dalai Lama's visit starting Sunday to the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh, which lies at the heart of a long-running border dispute between the two Asian powers.
