Hi guys i am from austria and new to this board, but i am interested in police and military units for some years now (especially swat units all around the world). I also played airsoft for 2 years, but then i quit, too much idiots and "i know everything kids"...
My eyes got worse in the last years and i am really pissed about that, because i want to work as a police officer or soldier one day. I see quite good, but not perfect. With my glasses on i can shoot very good, everyone was impressed, allthough it was my first time to shoot some "real" guns and rifles last year. So enough about me.

I saw one picture (maybe delta gallery) where you can see one guy with glasses. So my question is, is it possible to be in a special force unit, like, sas, delta, bla bla.. when you have to wear glasses?.

I know that its nearly impossible to get there, but i like to now the facts, and in october 2003 i join the austrian army.

Please no kiddie posts, i would like to get serious information not spam

For a little less than 1000 euro per eye you can get surgery that in most cases can restore your sight 100% (dependent on what makes your sight bad).

i saw something about that on tv, and i thought it would really make me happier, but no one knows what happens to your eyes after 10, 20, 30, 40.. years, because its quite new. The other problem is: 2000Eur! damn, much money. Maybe i can get the army to pay for the operation ;)

I read an article a little while ago on the USMC website that mentioned that the US military was paying for thousands of Lasik surgeries for American troops. A friend of mine who wore glasses for 20+ years just got it and now he sees better than 20/20 in both eyes.

i always wondered how this 20/20 thingy works in the US.
Here in austria its that way: if you see perfect than you have 0 dioptrien. If you cant see things far away you have -x dioptrien, in the other case you have +x. I have about 0.5 dioptrien, thats not much. I had a friend with -10 on one eye and +5 on the other, he was nearly blind without his glasses hehe
