I recently got a bunch of M65 field jackets and got rather confused when it came to rank placement. Some jackets had ranks on the collars, like on a normal BDU jacket, but these were all non-officer ranks. One jacket had a 2nd. Lieutenant tab on the right shoulder and one had the same rank on the middle of the chest.
What's the correct way to place ranks on an M65 jacket, or are all of these methods just as good?

With the M-65 the proper place is on the collers.

Officer rank on a field jacket is the same as their Class A uniform: on the epaulets, one inch from the shoulder seam.
Enlisted rank is on the collars, one inch from the tip of the collar.
"Rank was on the middle of the chest"? You sure it wasn't a gore-tex or wet weather parka?

In the USAF, enlisted rank chevrons are sewn on the sleeves.

With Goretex theres really no collar to put rank on just the flap on the center of the jacket.
