There are no easy pictures... I decided to post them to show what deep is impact of terrorism into life of single surrivours and relatives of victims. Casualities are also family members who must live with hurt emotions...

I don't want blame anyone but share my sadness with those peple from pictures...

My friends went to the cemetary last year. Me and guys here pitched in and got the freshest flowers for the fallen members of Alfa and Vympel.
We couldnt put any flowers for the children and parents since my friends were not there in Beslan.

This Sunday they are going to the cemetary again. Also my friends from Vityaz will be there as well. Photos are coming.

Their work requires it. A and V operatives must also have degrees in higher education like GRU operatives.

Army/VDV yes, Navy - if you mean combat divers etc. i think not, unless they plan to continue and serve (not sure about this).

RIP to all the children, who shouldn't have had to die, and RIP to the soldiers who did everything they could to prevent that from happening :-(

And we can't forget the brave actions of some of the adults that were also taken hostage, especially Yanis Kanidis. :(

Yanis Kanidis (also Ivan Constantinovich Kanidis, Russian: Иван Константинович Каниди ) (January 1, 1930 – September 3, 2004) was a Greek-Russian physical education teacher. When armed Chechen terrorists took more than 1200 school children and adults hostage on September 1, 2004 in the Russian town of Beslan in North Ossetia, in what has become known as the Beslan school hostage crisis, 74-year-old Kanidis insisted on staying with his students, helped them survive and ultimately died to save their lives.
Two days after the start of the hostage taking, a number of nursing mothers were allowed to leave the building with their babies. The commander of the terrorist squad saw Kanidis, an elderly sickly man, and offered to allow him to leave as well. But Kanidis refused, saying he would stay "with [his] students till the end". And throughout the ordeal, Kanidis guarded and fought for the lives of his students as best he could. When the children were succumbing to the sweltering heat, stuffy air and thirst, Kanidis approached the terrorists insisting that "You have to give them something to drink, at least to the smallest children". When he was heavily beaten with the butt of a rifle by one of the terrorists, Kanidis continued defiantly, "How dare you!? You claim you are people of the Caucasus region, but here in the Caucasus even a dog wouldn't turn down the request of an old man!" At which point the terrorists allowed Kanidis to wet one of the bibs of the children and pass it around to dampen the mouths of the smallest children who were choking from thirst.
The surviving hostages tell how he repeatedly risked his own life in order to save those of the children and how he moved explosives which had been placed near the children, and tried to prevent others from being detonated.
Kanidis was killed on the third day of the hostage taking. According to the Israeli newspaper Yediot Aharonot, he was killed when he jumped on a grenade the terrorists had thrown at fleeing children, sacrificing his life to save theirs. According to the Greek/English newspaper Kathimerini, he was shot when he tried to dismantle a ceiling fan that had been wired to an explosive device. According to a feature by C.J. Chivers, Esquire, June 2006. Kanidis was killed while struggling with one of the terrorists, trying to buy time for others to escape. His last words were: "Get the children out!"
Afterwards one of the saved students compared him to the Polish hero Janusz Korczak, who had accompanied his pupils to Auschwitz.
On December 9, 2004 Kanidis was posthumously awarded the medal For Protection of Human Rights by the Russian government. Later same month one of two new schools being constructed to replace the school destroyed in the attack, was named “Ivan Kanidis” in his honour.

"When shadows fall upon my heart,
and clouds upon my ways,
I raise mine eyes to Heaven in prayer,
a prayer from childhood's days.

Bright hope the humble words unfold,
and blessing in them lies.
My skies are clear and smooth my way,
when from my heart they rise.

The clouds, the shadows pass away,
all fears and doubting cease;
My soul is strong in faith again,
and in my heart is peace."

Never forgive. Never forget.

God bless the children of Beslan.

My consolations to all who died during the Beslan incident, RIP all brave souls. When it happened I felt revulsion and anger, I knew from then that the Chechen bandits overstepped their bounds, they did an act of pure evil and were going to pay for it. Their leader, the one who planned and gave the order to commit the heinous crime is now dead with many of his murderous henchmen.

May Beslan be remembered always. Innocent men women and children should never go through these acts of barbarism.

Just watched finished 'Children of Beslan'. The psychological damage on them is tremendous. They are more frightened of course and look normal on the outside. But what I am most frightened about is their aggressive behaviour. They are more.... angry and volatile. One said that he wanted to become a President, order all unarmed terrorists to be arrested and sent to him. And then use his knife to slit their throats. Another girl draws school no.1 with terrorists, tears them up then burns them. The cycle of hatred just continues and the main problem is that they are still children and such things tend to stick with them for a long time. To me the aftermath is just as bad. Damn cycle of hatred. Why does this have to happen?

Your attitude is disgusting. Have at least some respect for the deads, civilians or military. They did gave their lifes, trying to save all thoses childrens. Survivors of the Beslan school siege in Russia are in Switzerland as part of a study and rehabilitation trip organised by local students.

The group’s members were among 1,200 children, parents and teachers taken hostage by armed militants at their school in North Ossetia last September.

The terrorists, mainly from neighbouring Chechnya, detained the hostages in a gymnastics hall ****y-trapped with bombs, where they were forced to spend three days.

Explosives were suspended from the beams and basketball hoops. Their captors stood guard with their feet on detonator pedals.
There was no food, and as the hours wore on, the terrorists cut off all water and bathroom privileges. They threatened to kill the hostages if they did not keep quiet.

More than 330 people died – half of them children - in explosions and gun battles between the attackers and security forces trying to end the standoff.
The survivors were severely traumatized by bloody scenes they witnessed, and still psychological treatment.

The survivors were severely traumatized by bloody scenes they witnessed, and still require psychological treatment.

College project

Students at the Professional School of Commerce in Nyon, near Geneva, watched in horror as the drama unfolded on television.

They decided that, as part of their final year project for their commercial apprenticeships, they would try to help the victims of the siege.

They came up with the idea of organising a study trip to their town, which is located on Lake Geneva. Their teacher, Marek Mogilewicz, secured free air passages to Switzerland for 25 people, and found host families through advertisements in the local newspaper.

There were 21 ten-year-olds, three teachers and a psychiatrist in the original group, but five children returned home after the first week.

They arrived in Switzerland at the beginning of March, and classes got underway immediately.

The students are pursuing their Russian fourth-grade primary school curriculum, taught by their usual teacher. They have French classes in the afternoons.

Outside school, there are free judo classes for all the pupils on Monday nights. A local dance school has also offered free lessons.

The circus school will be teaching the students big top tricks after the Easter break, and a local bakery has offered to demonstrate bread making.

"There really has been a huge amount of solidarity from the community," Mogilewicz told swissinfo.

The host families also take the children on excursions around Switzerland and to the local swimming pool.

Healing

These diversions help the recovery process, but there are no guarantees that the psychological scars will ever heal.

Psychologist Larisa Lukanova, who accompanied the group to Switzerland, says many of them suffer from eating and sleeping disorders. "Some have become aggressive and others are too passive," she said.

But she has noticed an improvement in their mental health since the trip began.

Diana Daurova is a striking example. She was unable to communicate with her fellow pupils before her visit, having lost her brother in the Beslan bloodbath. Now, largely as a result of the contact with her host family, she plays happily and chats.

Her teacher, Svetlana Kozyreva, also feels much better. "I’m not afraid any more. I don’t have to run to the window when I hear the slightest noise outside."

"I hope no-one will ever have to go through what we went through," she added. We just want to go on and live our lives, just like everyone else."

More help needed

When the Swiss trip ends, Kozyreva will have to resume her teaching in Beslan at a school patrolled by armed guards. The security precautions are considered vital by local authorities, with warring Chechnya just across the border.

Mogilewicz says it is important that the Beslan survivors continue to receive Swiss help after their return home. He would like the sponsoring to continue until the 21 children reach the tenth grade, and has approached the Swiss government for funding.

"We need to keep trying to improve the psychological health of these children," he said. "Perhaps we can erase some of the trauma they have suffered."

Switzerland is already sponsoring a therapy programme at a sports hall close to the targeted school. The project, funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, aims to help survivors recover through numerous activities, including art, play and sport.

swissinfo, Julie Hunt in Nyon

Not allowed to go to the bathroom and no water to drink in the summer heat. Some said that they had to drink their own urine.
The ones who will suffer the most are the parents of the fallen children, especially those who lost not just one kid in that insane day.
Rest in Peace, young ones.

Guys just to ask, were the T-90 tanks used in the siege? I knew APC's were used. I was thinking if it was so, the terrorist might have turned insane and killed several people at the height of the siege, even though they had bombs. I hope I did not offend anyone.

AFAIK only T72s were used.

T-90s would be somewhat pointless for this kind of mission, the T-72 can accomplish pretty much everything the 90 can.....both however are total overkill for this mission....BTRs ae good enough.

although I was always suprised at the ALFA casualties , they are Russia's most elite CT unit no ?
yes the biggest lost of special units ever.
the story is simple, the weren't there when the operation starts,when they got their without any brief on situation theu took that much casualties.
why somebody bridge first before alfa came, I don't know for sure there are several theories

Guys just to ask, were the T-90 tanks used in the siege? I
there was a tank, not T90 like guys already mentioned, but tank was located from the train station side, not from the gym side like some assholes saying, blaiming the forces for anything.

Tragic event. Two of Bialik's poems spring into my mind when I remember this. Maybe his words can better describe the feelings, because nothing I say can.

On the Slaughter (http://www.richardsilverstein.com/tikun_olam/2003/08/24/on-the-slaughte/)

Heavens! Seek mercy for me!
If there is a God among you and he has a clear path-
Yet I have not found him–
Pray for me.
My heart is dead and no prayer lingers on my lips,
The hand has lost its strength, nor is there any hope-
How long? When will this end? How long?

Hangman! Here is a neck–arise and slaughter!
My neck is like a dog’s, you have the arm of the axe,
All the world is for me a scaffold-
And we-we are the choice few!
My blood flows free-
Strike with the axe and the blood of murder will gush forth,
Blood soaks through your shirt-
And will not be erased forever.

If there be justice-let her appear now!
But if, after my extinction from the face of the firmament justice appears,
Let her seal be overturned forever!
And in eternal evil let the heavens rot;
You too go, wicked spirits, in this cruel injustice
And in your blood live and suckle.

Cursed be he who says: “Avenge!”
Vengeance such as this, vengeance for the blood of a small boy,
Satan himself has not devised-
Let that blood pierce the abyss!
Let that blood pierce the depths of darkness,
Let it eat away the darkness and there undermine
All the rotted foundations of the earth.

The City of Slaughter (http://www.wzo.org.il/en/resources/view.asp?id=1523)

Arise and go now to the city of slaughter;
Into its courtyard wind thy way;
There with thine own hand touch, and with the eyes of thine head,
Behold on tree, on stone, on fence, on mural clay,
The spattered blood and dried brains of the dead.
Proceed thence to the ruins, the split walls reach,
Where wider grows the hollow, and greater grows the breach;
Pass over the shattered hearth, attain the broken wall
Those burnt and barren brick, whose charred stones reveal
The open mouths of such wounds, that no mending
Shall ever mend, nor healing ever heal.
There will thy feet in feathers sink, and stumble
On wreckage doubly wrecked, scroll heaped on manuscript.
Fragments again fragmented
Pause not upon this havoc; go thy way…
Unto the attic mount, upon thy feet and hands;
Behold the shadow of death among the shadows stands.
Crushed in their shame, they saw it all;
They did not pluck their eyes out; they
Beat not their brains against the wall!
Perhaps, perhaps, each watcher bad it in his heart to pray:
A miracle, O Lord, and spare my skin this day!

"A member of Russia's parliamentary commission investigating the September 2004 siege said rocket-propelled grenades fired by the surrounding Russian forces probably led to the heavy death toll in the school gym, where more than 1,000 people were being held hostage by pro-Chechen gunmen."

"A separate investigation by North Ossetian lawmakers blamed the republic's law enforcement bodies for allowing the hostage-takers to enter Beslan unnoticed. It also concluded that the Russian assault forces had used grenade launchers, flame-throwers and tank fire. Russian officials last year admitted that such equipment had been used, after initially denying the use of flame-throwers."

The Hollywood is making a movie about Beslan. The producer of Da Vinci Code bought rights to C.J.Chivers article about the tragedy in Beslan.

At the moment they are finalizing production budgeting, script and other pre-production needs to begin.

I was talking to Mister Chivers and asked him to please portray those who gave their lives to save innocence in a proper light...
So far good responses.

Lets all hope it will turn out good and educative, since its already late to stop it. Sometimes i dont understand hollywood...
