Hi, I'm in the canadian reserve light infantry, been in the army for 2 years. I first got to know JTF-2 on my basic training; it was a bright summer's night, around 2 am, my fireteam parter and I were sitting in a trench maning a machine gun, keeping a close eye for the "enemy force". Then, about 600 meters in front of us, a chopper flies by with 2 men hanging from a rope suspended from it, they get dropped off on top a tower, and dissapear within the building.
I looked in amasement, I look over to my buddy and say
"whatta f*** was that?!"
"thats JTF" he says
"who or what is JTF?" I replied. So throughout the whole night, my buddy told me about them, and special forces in general, from that day on, I was hooked.
I'm gonna be trying it out in fall 2005, even though they say I'm still too young. I'm currently in my swiming training phase, I swim for long periods of time, I swim with weights, I swim between obstacles. All in all, its great and i'm enjoying every minute of it.
Anybody else share my dream?

It was in Petawawa, JTF doesn't just train at Dwyer Hill, they use all CF bases, that tower I talked about, that's called the "JTF tower", located in Matawa Mlains, Petawawa, which is where my basic training took place. Now if any1 here sounds stupid, its yourself, you're not even in the military yet you think you know it all.

It is short, 3-4 days during last year of high school.
many start the training, after completing the 3-4 days, but most of them are being kicked out very soon... some are kicked out during the last day of training.

I'm happy being a lazy unpatriotic slob and reading about various Special Forces then lecturing those in business about where they’re going wrong.
Makes me feel important.

There is only one U.S. Army Special Forces.
It falls underneath the umbrella of Special Operations which includes other units such as the 75th Ranger Regiment, the 160th SOAR, and
the U.S. Army Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Command.

Im aware that they train not just in Dwyer Hill but in all the CF bases. Its just the way that this guys post came out that sounded sort of strange to me. Once again my apologies for i am mistaken.
I would like to but i have glasses and allergies so even if i would have enough physical training i couldnt. :|

Can't call it SF, but i'm most likely heading for selection for one of the more demanding units in the army in about a month's time. What sucks is that my knee got buggered last week during a "death march", and i'm worried it won't recover in time...
However, I remember having big thoughts about going all the way myself when i was around fifteen. Turned out i didn't have the eyesight for that business, so i never could do selection. A friend who did national service at the same time as me in the same unit had even higher ambitions than me. He ended up getting a medical discharge because of anal hair growing into his arse, or more specifically not coping with winter training as he later said. Point being that before you go about with all these fancy ideas, preferably take some time to find out if army life is something for you and if it is something you would be willing to take to the absolute extreme. The military is definately NOT as sexy as the movies show it.
Cheers,

Great way to think about it! Good luck! :D
I was at first planning to go into the Army after my two years in college. However, I was told that I should get my 4 year before any type of service.. Therefore, I'm in the process of getting my 4 yr. in Mechanical Engineering, and planning to go into the Army as an officer (after ROTC), and hopefully into the Army Special Forces.

Oh believe me, I've thought, I've thought long and hard, for 2 years, even after I made my decision. I just don't see myself doing anything else. There are 3 things that men desire; fame, fortune, and girls. So just ask yourself, if you want to be in SF to answer any of these calls, then done even think about trying out.

We were talking about selection only not training, and in Europe our definition of special forces is a bit more strict then the US, here only Delta force and SEAL's would be considered SF

i need to go to special tests and health tests too.. i hope i wont have any hidden problems.. i just hope i will get in... gonna be soo fun (and bloody hard... running 16KM with 10kg on your back is not easy) !

Fair enough, but no matter how you try and twist it, SF will always be a "boys thing", where people can go about just like in the films, or so those younger people who wish to join might think. It's not before you start going through yourself about your motivations you start to find out that a Chuck Norris mentality will probably get you booted even before the hard crap starts during selection.
The people i've met who's somewhat in the know are probably some of the most anti-hero i've seen. Not built like a brick and always calm like a hurricane eye. AirZone,
Are you sure you get to dive with them? If so what type? I don't know that much about Israeli forces, but i do know that diving is dangerous if not properly trained in it. I take it it's only open-circuit scuba stuff. Takes more than a couple of days (and a lot of money) to rebreather train people.

yeah im sure.. but you get only 1 STAR (you need 3 stars to dive alone or some thing)

Not to burst any bubbles, but I wouldn't be too sure about that. I mean here in the Netherlands you simply can't get into SF when you've got contact lenses or glasses. It might be different in Canada, but I really doubt that.

Same in Norway too. SF selection requires perfect eyesight, although laser surgery is an accepted means to pass the medical (not the case in many countries).
AirZone,
Never dived before? You'll love it! Where do you do this, west coast or down in Eilat?
I'm guessing you'll be looking at a half hour dive at no deeper than 12 meters. But if you're doing it with S'13 it'll probably include certain non-recreational aspects too.

Hmm what do you mean with that "perfect eaysight"? Here in Finland you must have atleast 1.0 in both eyes. I had 0.8/1.25 :| But i can try next year again and try to get better scores in physical tests.
Btw does anybody know that what those 70/100, 20/20 etc means? I mean that is 20/20 1.0/1.0 in here Finland/Europe(?). If some one know, please tell me. ;)

Generally yes.
20/20 means good eyesight. This can be achieved with or without glasses. People who can see 20/20 uncorrected have something around 1.0 .
1.0/1.0 is diopters. The 20/20 measures how well someone can actually see.

AirZone or other hopefulls,
Talking from how it works in Norway, i'm guessing your medical(s) will include amongst others;
- Eyesight, acceptable eyesight for SF selection here in Norway is being able to read at least the second lowest line on one of those boards from approx 4 meters. (This is military for perfect eyesight)
- Hearing (leave your discman at home!). Selection here does not require perfect hearing(!).
- Skin, do you have psiorheasis (spelling?) or other types of serious rash/skin disorders (also very bad acne goes under this)
- Spine/back, is it straight and in good condition?
- How you walk (have a limp)? Also includes how your knees are (reflexes OK? Medical history for injuries etc?).
- Teeth. If you can eat without problems, you're OK.
- You'll probably have your lungs checked both for TB and/or other disorders. Don't smoke.
- Also tests to determine if you do drugs.
The psychological tests will include IQ and interpersonal/social intelligence (EQ) skills. Also a technical competency tests, eg. you have a series of cogs connected. If cog A moves clockwise, which direction will cog K move? Also anyone going through parachute training here have intensive psycho-motoric and stress tests to determine if they have reflexes etc for jumping. You then need such and such a score on each of the tests to be eligible for various duties in the military. Pilot and SF are the most difficult to pass. In addition there's of course physical tests with pushups and so on.
Also for your diving, i recommend you go to some resort or diveshop and get yourself a resort-course, or preferably full open-water certification. Reason being that some people just don't cope with the concept of breathing underwater, even after having tried several times. It's just a reflex that's in place with certain individuals (even those who are very confident before doing their first dive). I'm thinking you'd want to do some diving before attending your setup just to be sure this isn't an issue with you, and also to become confident with diving basics so you can focus on the military portion of your diving (if any) during your 13 days.

Well, thanks alot.. i already dived once (with a..uhh.. no idea how to write it in english but i can say a "pipe" ? lol) so i dont have problem with water or diving
about the tests.. i will probably have those.. i have 6/6 and no problem at all with my breathing because i run alot (very importent in S13) but i have only one problem my back is not really straight..i dont know how to write it in english but its a known problem, 80% of the world have it.. i have around 20degrees while 30+degrees is a problem and im in gym and never had problems and im doing special training for my back so it will be stronger..
i hope they wont find it or some thing =P hehehe they didnt found in when i frist was checked for IDF 3 months ago ("zav risun" where 11 grade's are going to do medical tests and intelligence tests... so they didnt see it (even if they checked my back, its probably at a low degree) and i have profile 97 (the best "grade" that gives you ability to join the SF and other cool stuff)
anyway....my biggest concern is my problem at my back but so many people have it i dont think i will have any problems with it...
