this is just cretinous.
chances are some relative of the kid is going to see this and reads english
won't be impressed with the joke :(
I can see that pic turning up on mad mullah.com as proof how evil americans are :(
I know its squaddie sense of humour but thats why you have sgts to crack down on that sort of behaviour before it gets out of hand.
your dealing with a diffrent culture that won't find a joke like that very funny . pity there can't some sort of mini SF school for everybody how not to piss the locals off

well its funny but humilitating civillians your trying to get on side is an example of poor professional skills.
somebody needs to get a grip in that unit ASAP.
its not a freedom of speech issue the blokes a jnco and should set an example. :(
I don't have a problem with wilco I do have a problem with the numbnut who thought that would be funny to post on the net and take the photo in the first place
I agree, it is not representative of the professionalism of the US fighting forces, and not an image we want to send to the Iraqi people or the international community.
I'm sure the CO of whoever was responsible has already kicked some asses into gear about it, let's just hope it dies down and goes away. This Marine probably regrets it now, and I doubt he'd want it to continue being referenced.

Knowing my jarheads the way I do, I'm wondering why you guys think the sign is a joke.
Wilco
04-03-2004, 09:30 PM
So, what should I do about it?
If you guys want me to remove it, I will, if not, then oh well.
OzMan
04-03-2004, 09:51 PM
It's not up to us whether or not you remove it, that's your decision. It's just a matter of how much sh** you're willing to take, and how many people around here you're willing to piss off.
Personally, I don't like it, but I'm not gonna tromp all over you and tell you to get rid of it.

This definitely shows the difference in the mindset of US Marines and British forces... Reminds me of an earlier discussion.

hahaha!.... pounded his "dishonorable" face in... it's soo easy to take the highground on an internet forum. I know for a fact you'd find few NCO's in the USMC that would share your view. I bet you'd get "pounded" trying give him sh*t for taking the picture. Lighten up, nerd.

Most blokes I know would find it funny, but few would be silly enough to post it on the net. Definitely one for the private album.

Thats much funnier rofl
Pretty funny though the other one, although this definately a picture that shouldnt be posted over the internet. Sure it was ment as a lighthearted joke, but not all see it this way.
Just my thoughts on this...

It's a funny picture, I think.
As has been said though, not one for internet, and as Martin said in the first place definitely not one that's going to win hearts and minds .... ever. I hope there aren't guys in Iraq who find this pic on the web and pass it round or turn it into a poster or something.
Imagine, while the coalition are trying to get on the right side of the locals some Iraqi guy is posting this picture up around the walls of Basra or Baghdad .... man, that would really piss me off if I was an Iraqi ... kinda thing that would make want to join the insurgents side.
"Oh, so you come here, kill my dad and then shag my sister, FOK YOU"
It maybe a joke, or not, but definitely a picture for the personal album.
Edit - as ever for spelling and stuff ... ;)

It pisses me off and I'm American. I think people should take the time and reflect, what if that was in your native country (America, Canada, or Australia, wherever...) would it still be funny then? Just imagine that sign in Russian or German (no offence to either ethnicities) and two little American boys next to one of the invading soldiers.

if this jnco was dumb enough to post this on the net
I can imagine he may spend a rather long time counting grains of sand if there any SNCOs in his unit had any sort of hearts and minds type training

While I don't agree with what he's done what I find odd is this. Everyone jumps on this man and calls him dishonorable and such but when people posted about the Fallujah attacks some of you actually said "Well you can't blame them for fighting what they believe in" and **** like that.
Weird where the priorities are.

Wilco: I thought the photo was hilarious. Please keep posting. I sent the photo to my MC buddies and a former Rhodie trooper. So far I've received the following replies:
"That is fu**ing precious! THX." <and>
"Yeh, and I was knocking the bottom out of LCpl Boudreux's wife while he was gone! No, I wouldn't do that to a fellow Jarhead. Thanks for the humor."
