III. Para-Commando training

(* Para-commando's are the elite soldiers of the Belgian army... Their missions are similar to those of the US 75th Ranger however. They orignate from the SAS and Commandos, when Belgium was taken over by the Germans many Belgians went to Britain to join the army their. Once the Belgian SAS and commando's settled in Belgium the SAS regiment was transformed into a Paratrooper regiment, later the Commando regiment and paratrooper regiment merged into the Para-commando regiment, which later became a brigade by adding support units.)

This site links to a event which took place in Somalia in which the Belgian Para-commandos fought, its written by a soldier of the US 10th mountain division, its really cool to read even if you don't give a crap about the belgian army ;)

Those are some pretty sweet pics.. Anyways, in pics 56,72, you will see a soldier behind a mounted machinegun. Are they using Browning .50 cals?

The Belgian Jigsaw-pattern is quite effective in Western Europe though. In the nineties the Belgian air force adopted a somewhat brighter variant of Flecktarn, but they are phasing that out now. Too bad, it looked really good and what's most important, it worked!

Am I seeing things, or does Belgium use BTR's? (picture 64)

I know Germany still has some left over, maybe they sold them to them.

Belgian cammo does seem, well, 'funky'. Just my opinion, but I don't see it being effective.

No, those BTR's are Roemanian, they work together with Belgium in Kosovo.

About the camo, i was able to find this picture...

The guy on the right is a Belgian Para-commando, the one with the sniper a Dutch Airmobile soldier, and the other one is a German paratrooper

does the para-commandos wear an green baret? Maybe is that guy on the right just an normal dutch infantery guy ( they have dark green barets) or a dutch commando ( light green )

The guy on the right is a Para-commando of the "2 Commando battalion".

The Para-commandos wear the red or the green beret depending what unit they are in i.e

1 Para - Red beret
2 Cdo - Green beret
3 Para - Red beret
Artillery - Green beret
SF - Red beret
Recon - Red beret
