Far from it, the first 9mm ARs were introduced by Colt to try and snatch up the market share that at the time was largely going to the Uzi and MP5.

well, the french claim it's the best tank in the world! (nothing short of that...) but since we have seen them only briefly in kosovo it's hard to compare them with the challengers and abrams who have seen a LOT of combat missions and performed well beyond the wildest dreams of their engineers.

leclercs were not ready for the 1st golf war, the first Leclercs were commissioned in 1992.
15 Leclercs have been deployed in Kosovo in the context of UN peace-keeping operations, where their performances were judged satisfactory by the French parliament... (alrighty then...)

only 13 Leclercs will be deployed in Lebanon for peacekeeping mission.

in the early 80s french brass was looking for a fast tank rather than a heavy mamoth based on their fast striking strategy. they looked at the leopard2, abrams and even merkva to replace the amx-30.

and that puppy is light and fast that's for sure.

1,500 hp diesel engine with a maximum speed by road is 72 km/h and 55 km/h cross country. also maximum range is given as 550 km, and can be extended to 650 km with removable external tanks.

The Leclerc has a power to weight ratio of 27 hp per ton, making it one of the fastest main battle tanks in the world's and can accelerate from 0 to 32 km/h within 5 seconds.

At a combat weight of 56 tons the Leclerc is by far one of the lightest mbt in the world
