Telephone telepathy -- I was just thinking about you
NORWICH (*******) - Many people have experienced the phenomenon of receiving a telephone call from someone shortly after thinking about them -- now a scientist says he has proof of what he calls telephone telepathy.
Rupert Sheldrake, whose research is funded by the respected Trinity College, Cambridge, said on Tuesday he had conducted experiments that proved that such precognition existed for telephone calls and even e-mails.
Each person in the trials was asked to give researchers names and phone numbers of four relatives or friends. These were then called at random and told to ring the subject who had to identify the caller before answering the phone.
"The hit rate was 45 percent, well above the 25 percent you would have expected," he told the annual meeting of the British Association for the Advancement of Science. "The odds against this being a chance effect are 1,000 billion to one."
He said he found the same result with people being asked to name one of four people sending them an e-mail before it had landed.
However, his sample was small on both trials -- just 63 people for the controlled telephone experiment and 50 for the email -- and only four subjects were actually filmed in the phone study and five in the email, prompting some scepticism.
Undeterred, Sheldrake -- who believes in the interconnectedness of all minds within a social grouping -- said that he was extending his experiments to see if the phenomenon also worked for mobile phone text messages.

Anways, this has happened to me a few times, or when Im about to call that person and that person just happened to phone me. Also happened once or twice before where I pick up the phone to call that person and I start dialing but hear no dialtone and that person is already on the line...apparently the call came to my house but I picked up before it rang.

We do not exist in this state.
We are in a lucid dream.
Note: The above statement does not reflect my actual beliefs on mankind and existence on Earth.

I think it has to do with electrical signals. Humans may not have ampullae of lorenzini, but I think our bodies are able to pick up on the charges that come through land line telephones. I've done it, we all have.
That said, I've never had that happen with my cell.
Here we call it coincidence.
Yep....strange things happen with such frequency that mankind went an invented a word for it.
haha

IMHO
I think it goes beyond the physical. If you subscribe to the idea of humans being spiritual beings rather than just "bodies", then you might consider that we exist on two plains simultaneously, the spiritual and the physical.
As spiritual entities there is no time, distance, space, matter, energy, etc.
The spoken word is not necessary. Thoughts and concepts are presented and percieved 'instantaneously' without the use of human language, symbols or electronic communications devises.
However since we inhabit bodies and are constrained for the most part to the laws of the "physical world", we tend to disregard the possibility of communication on a higher level. It is what we have had drilled out of us for
centuries so we automatically write it off as a funny coincidence or give it earthly or scientific explantions.
I believe that it is as simple as one 'being' perceiving the 'attention' of another upon themselves. Like having the feeling of being watched, but you can't see anyone around, yet in your gut you know that you are being watched.
It's the same thing with getting the call from the person you were just thinking about, or simply knowing the phone was going to ring and having it do so.
You perceive their "attention" on you, nothing more, it's just that at those times that it occures, we happen to be in a slightly higher state of awareness and our perceptions are sharper or 'dialed in', if you will. There's nothing strange or supernatural about it, it is our nature.
We've just forgotten.

Or perhaps we're disregarding it because there is no sign of it at all. I could say "the feeling of being watched is caused by the earth's magnetism which powers the Being Watched Fairy, who's called Bob. How bob uses his power to let us know we're being watched, we don't know yet." and there would be no way you could prove me wrong and vice versa.

You can say anything you want, you are entitled to your opinion as am I,
I'm not trying to "prove" anything to anyone, I don't need to. I'm simply expressing my viewpoint as I stated at the top of my post IMHO. regarding the subject of the post.

That happens between my mother and I often. We try to call each other at the same time and get busy signals or "I was just thinking of calling you". We can finish each others sentences. Often give the same response to questions that are asked of us seperately.
When I was very young and I was sitting in my classroom in the early morning I thought "[Great] Grandpap died". I didn't know he was ill just that he was old so wasn't like we were waiting for it to happen. I remember looking at the clock. Later when I got home my mom told he died, I asked when she found out and it was right around the time I thought that and looked at the clock. That wasn't when he died... it was when my mother found out.

My mother and I do that stuff all the time too..I think there is an amazing bond between family members sometime..Im always facinated by those stories of twins feeling eachother's pain, or being miles apart and knowing that their brother/sister is in trouble or that something has happened to them..
I always know when my daughter is going to be sick..days before she is showing any symptoms..I just get a certain feeling, then 2 or 3 days later she's sick..When I got into a car wreck..my mom said she knew it at that moment, As soon as I called her the first thing she said was "Are you alright?' and this was at 6pm..not a frantic 3am phone call

A few weeks ago, I havent seen/talked to one of my friends in awhile so I decided to call him up to go have some breakfast. He told me right before I called he was telling his gf about his dream and I was in it. In the dream he was getting chased by some guy with a knife and he was suppose to meet me to play pool and when he finally showed up I got mad at him for being late...lol
