View Full Version : MP.net Dumbarse of the week award 04 - 08 Sept 06

I find myself breaking my own rule today. I said I wouldn't give it to anyone already banned, as that was dumbarse enough, but this really was a special case.

The Reenactment / Airsoft / Paintball forum was setup specifically to seperate those who 'play' war from those who train and operate for real.

Generally speaking it has done its job at separating the airsofters from the BTDT's because they don't particularly mix very well.

Every now and then however a numpty comes along and tries to pass off their airsoft experience with regards to weapon handling, TTP's, etc as valid in actual real life operations.

And this is what happens...

It starts at post #48

http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php?t=90331&page=4&highlight=ngati

sekiryuu.

I see the point he was trying to make. And I, as an airsofter, realize that arguing about a real weapon, with those who have handled that real weapon, and basing your argument off of a toy (even if it is 1:1) is just a dumbarse thing to do.....

Is that why he was suspended?

Sure hope so..........

What an assclown. Sometimes his BBs fall out? whatafag.

I want to see his face next to the ejection port.....hahahaha. I have a pic of my mate after firing the FAMAS configured for left handed. When the bolt went forward it took some cheek skin with it...and made my day.

It is just more fun when they aren't banned... it really takes a special person to be so amazing in their asshattery, and yet not get banned.

Even when fremen didn't want to post his acceptance speech in the award thread, some good folks figured out when he was admiring his award & looking at the thread... and other people helped us learn more about fremen's amazingness when he was talking about how proud he was to have won his award.

Ah well.. here's to sekiryuu! I hope you have a good speech for us when you come back from your ban!

Gives airsofters a bad name.

I've played airsoft for a long time.

When I finally got to shoot a real M4, it was like I had never shot an M4.

Mainly because I really didn't.

Exciting stuff in that forum;

Time reloading an AUG: just a little over 4 seconds.
Time reloading an M14 (Marui slacked off and didn't make the M14 heavy enough...meh): just a little over 5 seconds.

Heyyyyyyyyyyyyy, why do the airsofters get special rules!

New Rule

#0U812? - Don't insult nor try to make sense with the 'tards or attention'hores in their forum section - Off Topic & Humor. A separate section was setup specifically for these knuckleheads as a theraputic sanctuary.

p-)

I think the insults were the real problem in that convo (and he dished them several times after "BS", but wasn't the only one...), not his naive perspective. Part of talking to people is educating and learning. It would be an awfully boring forum if every thread started with a "this is what I think" style post and was proceeded by hundreds of "I agree". That's a kissing booth, not a conversation.

You know what grinds my gears? The fact that the dumbarses of the week are picked only from the threads Ngati posts in. Now, I'm not saying that this dumbarse of the week isn't deserving of his title. Far from it; any imbecile who bases knowledge on military equipment solely on airsoft/videogames/movies/etc. is pure, unfiltered dumbarse. Still, it would be nice if other members can work with Ngati to scour MP.net for nominees.

A weekly nomination thread and end of week vote would be one way. Otherwise, it reads like a personal flaming (not that we don't occassionally agree)... which is what this weeks winner was suspended for "Insulted Other Member/Religion/Nationality".

Airsofter looses it after being named MP.NET DumbArse of the Week

A POLICEMAN was shot in the head as he answered a 999 call about airgun yobs.

The officer had been called to Ridgeway, in Ryhope, last night when youths were shooting an air pistol at house windows.
He was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital and had to be kept in overnight.
The policeman was one of three called out to the street at 9pm.
It is understood he was shot outside one of the houses, which was later cordoned off by police.
Retired greengrocer Rose Dunn, 64, was among those whose houses were fired at.

She has lived in Ridgeway for 30 years and lives alone, after losing her husband in June.
She said: "There were shots fired at my kitchen window. There were three of them at first, so I phoned the police.
"After I phoned the police, there were another three shots at the window.
"I was too frightened to go out so I phoned my next door neighbour and he came round.
"Apparently, shots were fired at other windows and the police officer was shot in the neck."
A team of police officers was called after the incident and the police helicopter was sent.
The policeman's injuries are not thought to be serious.
Another neighbour ,who did not want to be named, said: "I didn't see anything of the shooting. I saw the helicopter flying around and police everywhere and all the street was cordoned off."

Air gun campaigner Linda Mitchell said: "This really is just the limit. Using an airgun in a public place is the height of stupidity but the fact that a police officer has been hurt just takes this to another level."
Mrs Mitchell has played a major role in the Echo's Gun Law campaign, which has been demanding stricter laws on the potentially lethal weapons.
Three males – one aged 15 and two aged 16 – have been arrested following the incident.

The Airsoft Gun was reportedly a Tokyo Marui Type 89 AUG, with an M16 style magazine release.

The Airsofters were arrested no so much because of the danger to the Public, but due to the danger they posed to themselves, particularily one individual who insisted on shouldering the AUG left handed with his nose about 10mm away from the ejection port.

Superintendent Kay Blyth, of Sunderland Area Command, said: "We are taking this incident very seriously and whether it was an accident or deliberate, it clearly highlights the serious implications of using these weapons and begs the question as to why they are so readily available. "Someone can easily be killed or seriously injured by a pellet from an airgun or ball-bearings. "We would remind people it is an offence to possess an air weapon or imitation firearm in a public place, which means it could lead to a criminal record."

Well, if you bothered to do some research you'd see that several of the awardees have been nominated in a thread before I became involved in it. There have also been several nominees who have been banned before the week is out.

From the first Dumbarse thread.

Nominations will be considered.

http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php?t=87204&highlight=ngati

I haven't seen any noms from you yet. Doesn't stop you complaining though. Funny that.

Hahaha, true, the week has been cut short to keep up with the demand.

No, i'm simply adhereing to the working week. Of course you and I as Kiwi's can understand that, but I guess some scandinavians are too stupid to work it out...

A weekly nomination thread and end of week vote would be one way. Otherwise, it reads like a personal flaming (not that we don't occassionally agree)... which is what this weeks winner was suspended for "Insulted Other Member/Religion/Nationality".

I don't have a problem with you and tried to refrain from dishing out personal insults. Nor am looking to be anyone's pet. If I was I'd probably keep my mouth shut. p-)

You don't know what I have nor haven't discussed with Hood or some of the Mods. That's an assumption on your part.

What I have a problem with is not you as an individual, but what this thread represents. The fact that this thread reads like a personal flaming (and is perceived by others as such) AND is allegedly endorsed by the Mods who dish out infractions and bannings for the same behavior. That seems hypocritical. I'd prefer less moderation... I don't want you infracted nor banned... I'd prefer it happen less to others for the same behavior. Let users hash out their differences.

Like I said early it would seem more legit if it was based on forum wide nominations and polls. That might make it "fun". Otherwise, it comes off like playground bullying with big brother standing close by.

I think it could be "fun" and right in line with the notion of allowing forum members to moderate themselves (groups will correct invidvidual behavior over time) as I discussed in the past both on the board and with some of the Mods.

It's not about you, Sunshine.

Ngati Tumatauenga
09-12-2006, 06:52 PM
You don't know what I have nor haven't discussed with Hood or some of the Mods. That's an assumption on your part.

Perhaps, but on the other hand the people who directed me to do this in the first place have not directed me to stop so I guess if you have complained to the Mods then they haven't chosen to act upon it.

What I have a problem with is not you as an individual, but what this thread represents.

Then take it up with the Mods because I take direction from them and Hood. Not you.

The fact that this thread reads like a personal flaming (and is perceived by others as such)

True.

It is also a fact that this thread reads as an entertaining tool to clue a certain strain of member into the right way of operating on this site(and is perceived by others as such).

So who is right?

You and your 'others', or me and my 'others'?

AND is allegedly endorsed by the Mods who dish out infractions and bannings for the same behavior.

No "alleging" about it. The proof is in every thread posted so far AND the fact that not one of them has directed me to stop.

That seems hypocritical. I'd prefer less moderation... I don't want you infracted nor banned... I'd prefer it happen less to others for the same behavior. Let users hash out their differences.

Your preferences don't carry any more weight around here than mine do.

Why?

Because as the Mods have taken great pains to point out on any number of occasions, directly and indirectly, to any number of people;

This is NOT a democracy. It IS a privately owned website.

I can understand and accept that. Why can't you?

Like I said early it would seem more legit if it was based on forum wide nominations and polls. That might make it "fun". Otherwise, it comes off like playground bullying with big brother standing close by.

To you and 'others' perhaps. But to me and 'others' it doesn't. In fact if you if you count up the posts, positive vs negative, you'll see more are for than are against.

So what?

Do you think you and your minority should call the shots about what is and isn't acceptable on this board?

I think it could be "fun" and right in line with the notion of allowing forum members to moderate themselves (groups will correct invidvidual behavior over time) as I discussed in the past both on the board and with some of the Mods.

Well, its really not about what you or I 'think' is it? And yet regardless of what you 'think' nothing has come to pass. I wonder what that indicates...

It's not about you, Sunshine.

It's not about you either, sweety.

although you obviously think so.

Please let him live Ngati. His words were spoken in ignorance. Beating him would bring you no honour. It is an unworthy contest.

Hot Lips, "Maori" forced the English Red Coats to a peace treaty, armed just with wooden spears and (beautifully crafted) stone weapons.

They are FIERCE. They are much more akin to the medieval Japanese in terms of military outlook.

I was most fortunate to be sheltered by a Maori woman when I was homeless in London.

She taught me respect for the Maori quite apart from her hospitality.

<sigh> Hot Lips, do a search on Youtube for Haka.

It is the traditional Maori challenge to combat, the All Blacks rugby team perform it most games.

It is not something to make fun of. It is in some senses a religious ritual, designed to conjure the spirits of ancestors both to witness the contest and strengthen the combatant.

It is not just the Maori who have this ritual. Many animist cultures do. Especially in the Pacific Islands.

I didn't think Clete's question was a racial attack, but his way of learning about Ngati with his humor. Surely Ngati can handle a little "locker room" jest from one of the guys seeking to learn about his heritage. And Clete was sure to explain he didn't mean to offend right away.

No, the Mods are not robots. 95% of the time, action taken by the Mods against members is totally justified - the other 5% of the time action is the result of knobheads p!ssing the Mods off - I would be the first to agree that. There are time when members deliberately push the envelope and suffer the consequences.

Some members deliberately push their luck more than others, therefore it is logical that they tend to be the ones hit with infractions.

It is also interesting to note how many of the Mod's most vociferous critics suddenly change their tune when it is "their" thread which is being flamed, or they are being insulted. Yes, on the whole being a Mod is a thankless job, or at least it would appear so from all of those on this thread who clearly think they could do better. Remember, this board is not a democracy, but neither is it the anarchy some of you would appear to prefer.

Unfortunately the members here are forced to spend a lot of time suffering the POOR judgement ( and personal bias in some cases) of some of the mods.

You have only been here for five minutes, yet like most noobs you think you know it all - have you ever tried moderating a board as large and as busy as this - I doubt it. Do you contribute much of consequence to the board - not from where I'm standing. Wind your neck in until you have something worthwhile to say.

Just tread lightly.... it's dangerous for a newbie to be very outspoken.... especially when it comes to criticizing the mods.... you really haven't been around long enough to form a solid opinion of your own. You've irritated me.... and that's not all that easy to do.

My opinions are quite solid, thank you.

Do you think that mp.net is a differant parralel universe, where people act and interact differantly to other forums, or places where "real" interaction happens? If so, thats also quite presumptuous.

Anyway, I see people who who have been here ages being slapped down merely for being "outspoken", like Clete, so how does being a "newbie" make any differance?

It never ceases to amaze me how sensitive guys in the military and military fans actually are (at least here). I've always pictured them talking to each other like Mother and Joker in Full Metal Jacket not running to their captain and crying because Mother said a naughty word to Joker.

haha, it seems some of the people here wouldnt make it 5 seconds into the Aircraft Maintainer world. Back at my home station in can be all the way across base from the flightline and work and if im with a buddy and someone hears us talkin to eachother, they always ask us if were Maintainers. There has been no mandate from hood that I am aware of reeling anyone in. The infraction system which was created with our input is just a "shot across the bow" warning system. All of the previous ban powers are still in place. I can prove it to you if you'd like. I hope that clears it up for you.

actually.... that's not quite true. We can still instantly ban if the situation warrants it.... and it had nothing to do with limiting our powers. Hood is fine with the job we are doing.... the infraction system came about because of mod suggestions.

Bugalugs (Chewy) is a strange one. A very strange one.

Lives maybe 10k from me as I discovered when we briefly conversed on PM as he is serving ADF- allegedly. And Army Legals IIRC- again allegedly.

I offered to meet up at a certain notorious Eastern beaches drinking establishment for a few tins but a sudden, deafening, silence descended on our 'conversation'. Pity, I would've liked to have brought BiZ along and played **** the pogue.

His social crusader rants always mystify me- this is a web site for pity's sake- some take it all a little too seriously. Seriously, if you find the place so infuriating as Bugs or Chewy or whatever clearly does- why create multiple accounts from indie IPs to get back in after a ban? Have you nothing else in your life? It seriously astounds me.

After reading his posts I think he really knew what was going on here for a long time and had something very personal against DW58. Now he's gone. For good. Don't really know what did he want to achieve?

Of course he did - we now know for certain that Chewyjada was in fact Bugalugs who I banned for constant trouble making. He then managed to come back as Lanton and was then banned by one of my fellow mods - it all fits together now.

What I still don't understand however was his original problem with MP.Net - and why he is so persistent. Well, he might find it a bit more difficult to get in next time.
