I don't know about military gun shot statistics, but i know that most civilian gun shot victims get shot in the torso. that has to do with the nature of the crimes associated with the gun (bank robbery, carjacking, drug deal gone wrong, gang violence, etc).

I think he is asking about where most combat related gun shot wounds are on thebody.
10% in the legs
18% in the arms
7% in the head
(I made these numbers up as an example.)
I'm interested in this as well. I have tried to find this info, but can only find Facklers data about what happens AFTER the bullet hits.

In UK they use bats pipes and sawed off shotguns.
That's like 2-3% of things they use in the states.

It's weird how nobody here calls the USA 'the states'?

This is my first time on so forgive any mistakes.
www.ammo-oracle.com has a comprehensive amount of info on 5.56mm ammo and it's capabilities. Even though it's not a military shooting the link to the report on the FBI shooting in the 80's in florida goes into quite a bit of detail on terminal ballistics and gunshot wounds.
Hope this is of use.

I'm not sure why everyone picks on the U.S. for having so many gun deaths. So the people want guns? Let them have guns.
It's not like a ban on guns removes the violent tendencies of a country's population. There will still be violent crimes without guns, just people will get stabbed or beaten instead. Frankly, I'd rather be shot. It's quicker :-*$

Per capita our gun crime is not very high, right? I don't know about you but I feel safer walking down a dark alley if I'm armed.
I don't think I would feel safe knowing morons like were walking around armed...

Only thing I know about shotgun statistics in a military setting, is that they apparently were very effective weapons in the battle of the British/Malayan security forces against the Chin Peng guerillas during the Malayan emergency of the late 40's to late 50's.
Apparently up to 1951 or something like that the M-1/M-2 US carabines where the most effective handguns in the arsenal of the security forces. From 1952 on shotguns (Browning semi autos and Remington 870's) were most effective, with US carabines 2nd.
As for use of shotguns by british/malayan security forces during the emergency 2 classic examples, both involving sgt. David Turnbull of 22 SAS, are often cited.

Per capita our gun crime is not very high, right?
The probability of being a victim of a homicide by a gun is about 39 times higher in the US than it is e.g. in Germany - that number takes into account the differing sizes of the people...
Do they have these numbers for every conflict? If so, where can I find them?

Wounds or injuries in the neck and head are very high around 19-24% according to chart 4 of FMSO report. I suggest it is time to look for a helmet. :)
