No need to be condescending to pro soldiers, they are all members of El Salvadors most elite units with a long recent history of COIN warfare.
Just because they aren't from Europe/USA/Commonwealth there is no reason to doubt their abilities.

He said they dont know what they are doing there, a statement, it is implying that they were put there without any knowledge of why, it is an insult to a professional soldier to say he doesnt know why he's there.

A well trained, well armed sniper on the roof of those coalition buildings could do a lot of damage to those militia. Ordered to take out anyone with a firearm outside would send out the right message, plus avoid the messy mistakes helicopter strikes often inflict. Just my humble opinion...

I guess the coalition forces are trying not to kill too many people (specially unarmed civilians). If there is a massacre among those Shiites, the rest of Irak would uprise and that woud be hell. Not to mention neighbor Iran.
Just my two cents

They think our troops are doing an excellent job. No one has critiziced our troops. The left thinks they shouldn't be there. The right thinks they should. But I've only read very good comments of their professionalism. In the past the image of the armed forces was not so good due to Franco's regime, but it has improved tremendously after people have realized the excellent job they do all over the world.

Certainly, Spain is changing very quickly, most of times for good. Once we went to América, not as tourists, cough, and now americans are coming here. This three spanish paras certainly look what they are, centroamericans and equatorians. I´m soooo happy that this men want to serve in spanish army that I can´t say anymore. Here they´re, in the heart of Castilla, vigilating the water we drink. I´d open the door at all for americans and I´d shut if for moors, but EU now rules inmigration policy, a thing that I don´t like at all. And yes, spanish politicians are satisfied with our soldiers, as is logic, but some of them think they are so valious that sending them abroad without any clear reason is wrong.

I also think that it's great . They are our brothers but for some "dark" reason we can't close the door to the moors. Meanwhile we are leaving all these brave guys outside.

Vietnam Vets are use to being insulted ;) So it don't mean nothing, don't mean a thing :P

But you did manage to change the subject, didn't you?

Perhaps when you grow up you might perchance understand what it means to be a soldier, until then, you can continue to live vicariously through the experiences of others here on militaryphotos.net.

Don't want to get involved in whatever this is all about, but I had to comment on Cut's comment. Vietnam Vets, i.e.-soldiers who fought in that conflict, were drafted (conscripted, if you must). They were not professional soldiers. A professional soldier is a volunteer.

Undo,

I served in Vietnam, hence my response to what I deemed a stupid remark.

You are right on about the conscription, but there were many who volunteered as well or had enlisted and were assigned to Vietnam at some point during their military service, which was the case with me. Thanks for the input. :D

Shotgun?

The man closest the camera has an M249 light machine gun - very effective at range on soft targets. not sure I see the shotgun guy?

Your probably right, although there seems to be something in front of the closest soldier to the camera, a (shot)gun without a man, maybe he ducked or something..
or perhaps I am just talking bs, I'm no expert on rifles
