Whats new about it? Basically a new graze contact fuze system. The rest of the round is pretty much the same.
EDIT: You can now download the full video from http://www.myffonline.com/khaki/84mm.avi (Right click and save as).
You'll need the latest version of Divx to watch it.

Yep, thats the one. Exactly why the Army is buying new 84mm rounds when we're phasing it out for the Javelin is beyond me :)

Phase out the CG-84? Why?
Sure, there is definetley better things to use to take out a MBT but nothing has the versatility of the CG as far as I know.
Plz enlighten me if there is...

Haven't read alot about the Javelin though, 'cept for the old one that is... Which was a portable SAM!
But the Javelin only has one kind of warhead doesn't it? HEAT?
Or maybe I didn't get what you meant at all now Luno! Need sleep..

Ha ha, yeah the training WO didn't want to have to call out a DMEO to blow a blind.

Surely the Oz Army is just phasing the CG out in the AT role? Unless you've got money to burn, a Jav isn't practical to blow bunkers or mouseholes in FIBUA.

What does one Javelin-missile cost, compared to one 84mm round...
Also, can you make the Javelin explode over enemy positions?
The 84mm is a very good weapon, but maybe a bit heavy... But it is very versatile, and is relatively cheap in use...

Can you fire the Carl Gustav from inside a building? I imagine it's much more useful to have around than most modern AT weapons in an Iraq/Afghanistan insurgent-fighting enviroment with the variety of ammo and lesser weight of reloads (thanks to the reusable launcher).

You cant fire Carl Gustav inside a building beacause of the backblast.
If i could remember correct from my training in the Norwegian army the safety area behind the CG was 60 meters behind and 45degres to the sides. Firing it was fun but to be in the loader was not because you got more exposed to the shock blast.

yeh...
maybe they can't afford to keep both Carl Gustav and Javelin equipped platoons in the army structure and train both types of soldier. That's the only (dumbarsed) reason I can think of for totally removing the CG.

**** NO! The BBDA (Back Blast Danger Area) is massive. I can't remember the exact measurements but from memory its 50m at 1600mils, I think. Its something big anyway. You fire that thing in a building, and if it doesn't kill you, it'll at least deafen you and collapse the room. Didn't you watch the slow mo bit of the video? Did you see the back blast that came out of that bitch?

I was a loader during a Mil Skill comp and the first round popped my ear plugs out of both ears! Normally I would have stopped to put them back, but we were competing with an American Unit and well, national pride was at stake :p

The CG will be around for a long time to come, though the anti-armour platoons will have the jav as their primary weapon.
They'll also become more widely spread as far as the 2012 thing goes.

You can fire the CG inside a roome if you have 5m free (rightupstanding objects, as a car ,a wall) behinde you.
The 60-70m backblast are if you are behined the CG, not for the shooter.
I know, I shoot in this way 3 weeks ago

What kind of ammo did you use? 9mm or 20mm training ammo?
This is the safety distance in WAR time

Well it must have been a large, well ventilated room with massive windows and doors for the overpressure to vent out from. It was bad enough just standing next to the damn thing in the open.
