That first pic reminds me of Jesse Ventura in "Predator", with the big wad or whatever is in that guy's mouth.
Pic#11 (M82 firing), NICE SHOT!!
Pic #17, on the guy's pocket, anyone have any idea what is sewn on the underside of the flap? It looks like something's under there. And it looks like he put that "US Army" tape on there in a hurry. What does the button say?

Looks like a Saddam Hussein pin. There's nothing under the pocket. Those are velcro pockets. Interesting, I have never seen velcro breast pockets before. I suppose that the SF have first pick from the new gear (I remember that they planned to make Velcro pockets) as well as access to custom gear.
Those pics of the desert HMMWV's is interesting. The SF guys added smoke grenade launchers and even painted the M240's tan! :o
The line of desert garbed SF patrolling along the road is also interesting, not the dirt on their faces. Camo or just dirt? I guess that showers aren;t exactly the #1 priority there. Also, if that is Baghdad, I am guessing that the water supply is still not good enough to allow anything except drinking, fire fighting, and the necessary things.

The second picture is interesting as well. A white Iraqi? I have seen strange stuff before (like white Indians, as is people from India) but this beats all, especially in a very Arabic looking country.
The third from last picture is strange. Why do they have all the tires on the back? Wouldn't placing some on top of the roof and some on the sides be better in case they come under fire? To keep some tires intact by spreading them out, I mean. What sort of truck is that anyway? FMMV family model upgraded for SF duties?
The whole series is interesting because of the variety of garb that the SF people wear. Very eclectic mix.

They don't issue velcro pocketed BDU's. It's a custom job that he did to it. Look at the sewing job. He did it himself.

The sewing is machine made. I know it when I see it. He might have used a machine himself but where would he get buttonhole-less short pockets to attach velcro to? It looks like a pro job. How do you know, maybe the SF ppl are already getting velcro shirts. Also: Don't the new Marine CMMU's (correct the name if wrong, please) have velcro pockets?

Anyone noticed the holographic Scott goggles the 173rd guy is wearing? This guy has some attitude!
As for the Aimpoint mount in pic 12, I think he's got it mounted on the carrying handle to clear the AN/PEQ-2 using a handle flat top.

Velcro pockets are nothing new to get excited about. I had a Plt. Sgt. who ordered the whole platoon to get velcro to replace our pocket buttons(all 8). Because he was sick and tired of looking at the buttons wearing through our cammies, which they do after repeated starching and ironing. This was years ago(93) and I was not in any high speed low drag unit, although the Sgt was former Force.

Very good pics..
Commie
You have a problem with that?
The reason for wearing just one knee pad, is that he only needs a pad on the knee he sits down on when he's firing. So when he sits down to shot the only knee touching the ground is in this case for a right hand shooter his right knee. :D [/quote]
I believe in the freedom of the press, assembly, religion... or what we Americans call the Bill of Rights. And yes, I believe that Tiananmen Square was an atrocity. China's own people began to also believe in the Bill of Rights by: holding up banners saying, "Give me liberty or give me death!"; distributing the writings of Locke, Spinoza and others; and assemblying in protest at the Square. What happened to these people? Te Commies killed thousands of them and imprisoned thousands more. Ichhabe I HAVE A PROBLEM with Communists.

ok trigger, that was a little uncalled for. I'm chinese but not a communist, and although he is a chinese communist, you don't have to insult the people, insult the government. Eating dogs isn't something dictated by the communist government so what your comment is saying is that you have a problem with chinese people eating dogs instead of communists. Don't even try to defend your statement. Just please appologize and think before you comment about something like that again. thank you

Dear Loke,
don't think so. I think the clip I saw was from Iraq, and the two guys in the clip looked a bit older than in this photo with lighter coloured beards - perhaps from the dust. But thanks anyway.
But I'm curious: do the Special Ops soldiers in Iraq grow beards like they do in Afghanistan?
I read the book "Task Force Dagger" and understand that there's a reason for this in Afghanistan. But what about Iraq?

OK Bing (and anyone of Chinese decent, or anyone who was once Chinese or anyone planning on becoming Chinese):
It was a joke
That's usually what I do here. I read the interesting topics, occasionally comment, and often joke.
Get over it. If my intent had been to offend someone on the basis of their ethnicity, I would have used any of the myriad racial slurs out there.
However, if you were genuinely offended, then I apologize.
I'm not going to stop joking around though - fair warning.

er.. you're posting 2 air force guys in the army special forces thread?
Gringo
07-29-2003, 02:11 PM
Well not really. The thread is entitled "More special forces in Iraq", it didn't specifically say Army special forces or even US special forces for that matter. So anyone could post pics of any countries special forces.
technically, special forces is the name of the group belonging to the us army, so actually it is. special operations forces or special warfare would be a more inclusive grouping. I'll modify the thread title to be more specific.
