As most of you know in Iran armed forces are under direct control of supreme leader (as oppose to many countries president of Iran has no military power).. Khamenei visited Noshahr navy academy to see the graduates and also Iran's new domestically built navy ship called "Joshan"... here are some pictures from the event:

Another part of the event was a short exercise in Caspian sea carried out by the academy graduates and you can see the new "Joshan" in one of the pics which officially joined Iran's navy today.

I'm not as up on small arms as some of you guys, but, in the last two pics are they armed with Uzi's?

Iranian forces (especially SF) use variety of weapons for different situations and UZI is a popular choice as a light fire arm...

And who is the rather bulky officer with the 8 rings? I've seen him in other pics?

that fat general is Firouz Abadi, don't know the English word for it but basically if you think of the group of commanders, commanding different sections in Iran's armed forces this guy is the head of this group which reports directly to supreme leader.. hope I made some sense!

Thx for the pics!

But somebody have to seriously tell me why ppl still march in that way, kicking the sky. It just looks silly! Think everyone should march more like the FFL!

Oh, and the usage of UZI's is seriously ironic! :)

The navy looks "more pre-revolutionary" than the other services. It seems that some had grown the "5 o'clock shadow" beard for the occasion.

Ironic considering the Mullahs don't recognize the State of Israel and thier President wants to wipe it out
- yet the UZI is a popular choice ...

Great pics, especially the parachuting ones.
It may interest you that the old Imperial Iranian marines were trained(in part) by a British Royal Marines training team and at RM units in UK. Some of that influence still shows in the dress of the Marines shown in the photos.
The Imperial Iranian Marines were the subject of an excellent BBC documentary back in 1977 entitled 'Persian Commando'. Does anyone remember it?(part of the 'Taste for Adventure' series)

it is not complete yet.. SSMs and a new canon will be fitted soon (not sure if it is PR but they claim the canon is state of the art and only the US and Italy use a similar technology)...

iranians claim a lot. what they should focus on is making effective ATGM similar to javalin, tons of tandem warheads for there rpg-7's, as many manpads as they can produce, and body armor because that PT boat will get sunk out of the water very quickly.

Man if those Uzis were bought during the 70's in the Sha's regime they gotta be very worn out. But most likely it's another generic Iranianan copy.

Taken today from a practice done in Tehran's Milad tower (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milad_Tower).

Borj-e Milad (Persian: برج میلاد) is Iran's tallest tower. Built in Tehran, Iran, it stands 435 meters (1427 ft) high from base to tip of antenna. The head consists of a large pod with 12 floors, the roof of which is at 315 m (1034 ft). Below this is a staircase and elevators to reach the area.

Milad tower is part of The Tehran International Trade and Convention Center. Scheduled for completion in late 2007, the project includes the Milad telecommunication tower offering restaurants at the top with spectacular views of Tehran, a five-star hotel, a convention center, a world trade center, and an IT park (to be completed by March 2007). The complex seeks to respond to the needs of business in the globalized world of the 21st century by offering facilities combining trade, information, communication, convention and accommodation all in one place.

The complex features a parking area of 27,000 square meters, a large computer and telecommunication unit, a cultural and scientific unit, a commercial transaction center, a temporary showroom for exhibiting products, a specialized library, an exhibition hall and an administrative unit. Milad Tower is also claimed to be the fourth tallest free standing structure in the world, and the first considering the vast functional structure on its top and the only tower with an octagonal base, symbolizing traditional Persian architecture. The Milad Tower is predicted to replace the long-time symbol of Tehran, the Azadi Tower.

I still don't get what is so wrong with Iran using UZIs.. it is not like they are currently buying UZIs from Israel.. Iranian armed forces will use any weapon (no matter the origin) as long as it does the job!

I was guessing the same thing.. but I always thought MG3s are heavier than an assault rifle.. in this pic the soldiers seems to be carrying one with one hand very easy!

Nice Pics Kraf :)

But Where is "Iran's new domestically built navy ship called "Joshan" ?
The second Iranian build Fast Attack Craft (Missile) or FAC(M) officially become operational in Caspian Sea.

The newly built Iranian Navy "Joshan P225 FAC(M)" "joins "Peykan P224 FAC(M)" at sea and in background to shots on TV during naval exercise near base.

Both NEW versions of "Joshan P225 FAC(M)" and "Peykan P224 FAC(M)" have been re-build in memory of original "KAMAN CLASS" FAC(M) of "Peykan" and "Joshan" lost in Persian Gulf during 1980-88 war against Iraq and US.

the joshan is the other ship you can see in the pictures with both the cannon and the launchers already employed.
