First off, I'm not sure if this has been done before or not, secondly I wasn't really sure where to put it..but anyway!
Now, I'm sure those that have served, or those that know people who have served or just those that have a keen interest in the military have (or have heard) various stories from over the years, you know funny little incidents that happen on exercise, that kind of thing. Well I thought we could have a topic to share them; can just be a story you've been told or something that's happened to you and your guys..
Take this for instance, I've got a book called Military Anecdotes (Hastings) and I was reading it earlier on the bog and came across this gem;
"...The stars who emerged from commando soldiering were not confined to the officer class or to the famous regiments. Take Lance Sergeant Peter King of the Royal Dental Corps. A tall, fine-looking man, drafted on mobilisation into the wrong branch of the service, he quickly became bored with the inactivity of his professional duties. Stationed near Dover, he decided to raise a private army of his own, consisting of two other men. They 'borrowed' a boat in the harbour and set out on a raid across the Channel. Wind and weather were against them, the engine broke down and they drifted for two days before being ignominiously towed home by a naval patrol. King was court-martialled and reduced to the ranks. He immediately applied to join No.4 Commando"
