My mom has collected quite a few live rounds from my dad's pant pockets, mostly M855. Well, I was planning on drilling a hole and pouring out the powder so I can make some key chains. Can I just use a metal drill bit on a brass casing? I don't want to ignite the powder. :|

Whatever you say, don't worry, I won't hold you responsible if I shoot the ceiling.

ooooh, don't use metal on metal. not good. Too much heat. I would put the case in a vice and then use another tool to twist the bullet away from the casing. you might give it a try and see if the shape of the metal remains intact.

I want the bullet still in the casing... I don't have a reloader to make empty ones.

hmmmm... the only other way is drilling with metal through metal. when you try that, though, point away from yourself. try to be safe. :|

Do not drill a live round. Ever. Please don't.

Got it, thanks. I figured I ask since it sounded like a dumb idea.

How they "drill" out live rounds then?!?

my vote goes for pull out the bullet, then pour the powder out, then puch it back in....or cut it to size and use epoxy to make it look like it is whole...but dont drill live rounds...unless you want a few extra holes in something or someone..

Thanks for the input everyone. I've decided to hold off on that project for now. :D

a recruiter at my recruiting office once thought about turning 2 live mk19 rounds into salt and pepper shakers.....it would have been cool if it could have worked, but luckily he used his brain and realized that it was a bad idea :P
