If its on me going about, I carry it in the cargo pocket of my trousers...In the Jeep, its in the center consoul...If ist in the woods its on my LBE rig in a front pouch or breast pocket..
I carry a police issue can..Pretty large and will go 12-15 feet.. Its made for a pouch...I think I payed 14$ for it. Its about the size of 2 D sized batteries upon each other..

Civil: right side, just in front of the pistol (the spray has a belt clip), Pistol in a Blackhawk CQC Holster (with jacket) or without jacket or in suit in a Stucki leather holster. ASP Baton on the left side (cross draw)
Uniform: Same thing, but open, when we work in uniform it looks like this

Yeah baby, but what are you doing when you get into a fight with a strong, but unarmed oponent... you shoot him? Or what are you doing when people standing around... risking a ricochet that hits the pregnant mother watching the fight? Never bad to carry a Pepperspray or baton.

In Texas, I have a right to use deadly force if I feel that my life is in immediate danger or trying to protect someone. That's why I go shooting every week. I'm not going to spray and pray.
I never start fights. In Texas people know better cause you don't know who's packing or not.

Don't have a permit to carry OC as a civilian.
But in work I carry one on my belt in a holster.

I only carry one during night time. No holster, just in the pocket and always in a way to get a good and fast grip on it.

In Switzerland (no joke) pepperspray is under food and nutrition laws...
In Belgium you can't legally own or buy peperspray as a civilian.
Ofcourse... you can find it on the streets.
I got my 2 sisters a can and sometimes I carry one myself when I go out 'late'.

Damn right.. if you need to use PP then it must be serious enough to worry about the laws later. Only use it if everything else failed.. prevention and escape.

Yeah but then we dont have kids going into our schools with an AK or disgruntled officeworkers with a SPAS shooting crap out of each other. Thats why we have tighter legislation.

50ml peper spray when walking my dog... in the pocket or on the integrated clip attached to belt/waist(depending how tight pants I wear). But I don't think peper spray would do any good agresive dog will probably not be stoped by that at all... On the other hand my moms coworker husband was killed in dispute with neglicent owner after he sucessfuly pepersprayed dog ******y ofending his bitch. He was thrusted with the window wiper in the throat, died later in hospital from the sweeling... So if you are going use the gas on someones dog spray the owner too, just in case...

I typically only carry it if I am hiking in the woods. Then I carry a large cannister in a holster on my belt. It is intended for use on Bears so it is stronger than the regular stuff and has a range around 10-15 feet.
In Canada it is basically illegal to carry a weapon most of the the time and intent is important. So it is ok for me to carry "bear spray" if I am in an area where that might be needed and if that is why I am carrying it. If however I were questioned by a law enforcement officer and I said it was for self defence against other humans it would then be regarded as a weapon and I would be in violation of the law. The same goes for the little cannisters that you can legally purchase here for protection against dogs. I do occasionaly carry one of those if I am going somewhere where I feel the threat level is greater than the areas I normaly frequent. Again though if I were questioned about it I would be carrying it because of my fear of dogs.

DO NOT SPRAY ON DOGS!
Tried a quick sprayshot in a dog once (with paralysant and tear gas too) and NOTHING happened! The dog stared looking at me for some seconds (waiting food?), start snifing & snorting and took his lazy ass away without seem to be disturbed.
So, imagine what happens if the dog is really aggresive. Maybe the most effective method is to get rid of this pepperspray to let you run faster!

Pepper spray does not incapictate all people or animals to the same degree. In terms of its effect on humans I have always felt that if someone attacked me and I sprayed them, even if it didnt stop them it would at least hinder them to some degree wich might give me an added advantage.
In terms of animals I know that with bears studies have shown that while it might not 100% deter an attack it will generaly cause them to at least temporarily back off or pause and this could gove you a chance to escape.

Bearspray Guard Alaska - BR-9
Guard Alaska ultra hot pepper spray has proven so effective repelling bears, it is the only one registered with the EPA as a repellent for ALL SPECIES of bear! It is absolutely the most effective and powerful bear defense spray available today. It is environmentally safe! Does not contain flammable or ozone depleting substances. The formula is scientifically proven superior, and endorsed by the Alaska Science & Technology Foundation. 260 grams. Range: Approximately 15-20 feet. Dimensions: 8-3/4” x 2”
The Sierra Club wants the Forest Service to require everyone who enters a national forest in grizzly bear country to carry bear spray Spokeswoman Heidi Godwin said in a news release, "The proper use of bear pepper spray will reduce human injuries caused by bears, reduce the number of grizzly bears killed in self defense, and help promote the recovery and survival of the grizzly bear."
We don't necessarily approve of making new laws, but it does show how effective bear spay is against bears. Also, make sure that the spray you are using is registered with the EPA for use against bears. There is a special formula for this and ordinary pepper spray is not recommended. More power then police pepper spray, or police mace spray
Yes, was absolutely right when he mentioned "bears". :)

Try the 'Foam' version. Comes out is a blueish color,, pretty much like having 'shaving creme' sprayed in your face at a "Rocky Horror Picture Show".

I've carried and used CS gas in the past, kept it in my front right pocket. The wife now has it in her car, center console along with a stung gun.

I hear many bear sprays also contain ingredients in addition to OC that are unbearable to bears (pun). Stuff that smells really nasty to bears like a kind of skunk oil.
You can't get an OC spray here in Finland without a permit so there are purely odour based bear repellants on the market.

On topic, has anyone taken a hit with pepperspray? I know certain military jobs require it in training. I have always wondered how bad it really is. (not bad enough to try though :P)
Also are stun guns legal to carry here in the states? I'd imagine something of the sort would come in handy to carry in the car for emergencies.

I've been sprayed with pepper spray and Freeze +P (OC+CS) and neither one was an enjoyable experience to sit through, I also had to get shot with a Taser. After all that I do have to say I much rather get shot with a Taser then sprayed.
kaspur eh, I know that where I live you can carry a tazer but your required to go through a safety/use of force training course first. Hope that somewhat of the answer you were looking for.

during military training, I got totally wasted by cs gas grenades. That was horrific. We had to crawl into a dark basement with our gasmasks on, well good thing mine hat a drinking adapter, that totally leaked after a couple of minutes of wearing (it took just long enough to pass the test you do every time). Dont know if pepper spray has the same effect, but the basement was full with gas, 3 grenades! you could see 1-2m probably.
My eyes started to burn, and i couldnt open them. I tried to hold my breath, but every couple of seconds I had to breathe and the gas went down my throat, it burned like hell, and i lost my orientation (dark+no eyes+no air+pain=chaos)for a couple of seconds. Found my way out, but I never want to do that again...

Anyone have any idea whether there are federal laws in the US which dictate pepper spray usage or if each state has a lot of different laws?

I witnessed someone get hit about 2" from his face with CS gas, I know he wasn't too happy about, I remember him screamign my eyes as his hands went to his face.

When my car was stolen out fo the parkign lot, I asked a friends husband(who is LE) if it would be legal to carry one in a car. He said yes so long as it is in plain sight. Law may have changed though.
