Hosseini blasts US treatment of Venezuelan FM at NY airport Tehran, Sept 24, IRNA
Iran-Hosseini-Venezuela
Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini here Sunday criticized the treatment by US officials of Venezuelan Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro Moros at New York airport as impolite and against diplomatic norms.
According to a report released by Hosseini's Office, he rejected such a treatment as being against international norms and particularly in violation to the 1961 Vienna Convention on respecting the right of diplomats to immunity.
Hosseini regretted that such measures were repeated by US officials during the United Nations General Assembly meetings.
"The US government's narrow-minded approaches and various restrictions were witnessed during the 61st annual session of the UN General Assembly, which are repeated in other international meetings.
"The US unethical approach to Venezuela's foreign minister is against the commitments of US government to the United Nations and foreign delegations attending the UN General Assembly in New York," he added.
Hosseini noted that these measures seriously damage US reputation, given that the United Nations Headquarters is situated in their country and it serves as a host to the member states.
"According to the United Nations Charter, the US government is bound to facilitate the entry and exit of high-ranking officials of the UN members states, while such measures are considered as political misuse of its position as the country hosting UN headquarters.
"Such an improper approach demands serious attention by UN member states and necessary steps should be examined and taken in this respect," said the spokesman.
Maduro Moros declared on Saturday that on his way back to Venezuela from the UN General Assembly, he was detained briefly at New York's John F. Kennedy Airport, which was against international laws.
Speaking to Venezuela's television, the minister said that he was kept at the airport for one and a half hour and that his documents were not returned to him.
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez referred to his US counterpart George W. Bush by the name he had called him at the UN General Assembly and said, "The move was incited by Mr. Devil."

The hypocrisy of it all, this is what’s read in Iran? Host the UN in Iran and pay a 1/3rd of the budget Mr. Hosseini then we can talk trash. I am sorry to inform you that the actions of your amigo Chavez has managed to do something very special here in America, he had Republicans and Democrats agreeing on something.

I am sorry we threaten you but ya know we are just a bunch of cowboys over here. Too much TV I reckon; but hey lets do sit down, cut off the **** tube and talk. You have to put a new paint job on my Embassy first though. If you really want to win over us Americans, flood the market with all your oil then we will buy the we need nuclear power bit.
