Anyone playing this? It's a WW2 strategy and it's really fun to play. And in-game effects are really impressive, in Cherbourg I had to call a destroyer to help me with Krauts and one direct hit literally blew up 6 or 7 germans. Body parts were flying all around... p-) Although the game lacks reality, as I said it's fun to play and missions are very good. Link to the official site. (http://www.companyofheroesgame.com/)

How realistic is it? Are we talking Blitzkrieg or Age of Empires?

Yeah, is this a kind of AOE game? Where you build your base and smash on with the enemy? That would be pretty cool. I noticed on the game website it says that Engineers "Build buildings" so im guessing.. it's pretty much like Command and Conquer, Age Of Empires.
Or am I wrong.

You're right, on some missions(not all) you can take the house and build a base around. And yes, engineers can build base structures, field hospitals, small bunkers(great for supressing germans) even anti-tank obstacles or barbed wires. Also they can deploy land mines or turn themselves into flamethrower units.

I would say its more like dawn of war in ww2 but its quite nice game with some annoying features like AI having extreme pathfinding sometimes. You spend s load of time chasing some gemans that sliped throu holes in your defense. If you leave even single hole in your tanktraps line ai will find it sooner or later. I would say that also in some missions map is too large to be covered completly with such small sized force. MAX cap is 75 what allows to make two reasonable in size taskforces. (aka task force that would be able to blow any kraut attack to pieces) Its quite realistic for RTS. Small calibres bounce from tanks most of the time like they shoud. Experience is extremly important especialy with any kind of AT weapons. Atacking tank from its back is generaly devastating. You might cause critical hits damaging engine for example. etc. I think they made good balance bewen realism and fun.

I just took Hill 192 at St. Lo. What a meat grinder.
Any fan of RTS should pick this one up. It's definitely one of the best out there. Some in game screens:

Airbourne and rangers are some powerful units in the game
Airbourne have loads of explosives etc..
Rangers rockets, tompsons i played one game where i was only one left and was getting destroyed still had my HQ up by have engineers fixing it all the time but this guy was attacking with infantry and tanks and i had loads of man power and kept pulling rangers from off map held out with just HQ and 2 - 3 anti tank guns and rangers and sometime i would get few tanks and MG/motor teams took this guy about 2 hours more to completly kill me off saved that replay was one of the best games i had on it even though i lost.
One thing i hate is droppers!!

I've got the game but I lack the patience to figure out how to play it.
I like simple games: Quake, Diablo, etc..
