CAMP SCHWAB, Okinawa, Japan - Two sumo wrestlers from Toyo University prepare for battle during an exhibition match. Prior to each bout, the wrestlers stomp their feet, clap their hands, and throw salt across the ring as an act of purification.

CAMP SCHWAB, Okinawa, Japan - Kei Takehara, Toyo University Sumo Wrestling Team, struggles with Pfc. Steve M. Hinesely, warehouse clerk, 4th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division. Hinesely won the match by using his brute strength to push Takehara out of the four and a half meter ring.

Sumo training is cruel! I was watching a days action at a Tokyo Sumo "dojo" five years ago and the young guys got one hell of a beating from their instructors. It's a great sports though and good for building up team spirit and letting some steam out.

I was at Camp Schwab for 18 months thank god I didnt have to wrestle one of those monsters!
