srry for keep asking perhaps stupid questions, that first one may be considered stupid, but if the dog-handler isn't a Ranger, What is he?
Just a dog-handler?

do you guys have to worry about snipers?

shrek
04-07-2004, 09:58 PM
Yes, we had two SNOT (sniper/observation teams) from the 75th in the hills above whenever we dismounted. We never had a problem with them when we were dismounted. they liked to shoot at us when we were driving mainly.

These particular Rangers had just been in a pretty fierce fire fight in a small village tha was supposed to be mostly on our side. A few injuries but nothing serious. So, we called out for the "specialist" ie. guy with supressor, and we stopped everyone and everything for two days. I think we got all that had anything to do with it. They couldn't flee into the hills because of our vantage point and of course we owned the night so we just weeded them out as they tried to slip out in cars and such. Just thought you'd lkike a little background. The locals called the Rangers the "helmeted ones" or the "hard-hats". They feared them and not us. What they didn't know was that it was us who sent the door kickers, HA! We called the Rangers the "wind up toys". You just point them wherever you want them to destroy or otherwise clear an area and off they went! Rangers lead the way baby!!!! I loved and respected them all, especially one named "Monkey"!

shrek, picture 6: were you guys able to take that humvee through that creek?

picture 4: is the guy on the right with the suppressor the guy you were referring to before? and is that a checkpoint? it seems like those ranger guys are too close together in case one of those guys (or goats) was packing explosives.

Just thought you'd lkike a little background.

Background always appreciated.
Shrek, since you were in Afghan, do you know any of the SF guys who shoot himself and his wife after back to home? I just feel sad and try to understand why.

shrek
04-08-2004, 12:17 AM
It's not a creek. It's a huge river that's about 50 feet down. Weird camera angle. We were trying to do a three point turn on a very narrow road. it took about 10 points.

Yes, unfortunately terrain and other factors caused us to be bunched up more than I liked, but in these hasty checkpoints it's ahrd not to sometimes. Remember, Afghani's are not known to be big into suicide bombings so we didn't fear that much. it was the IED's that scared us, remember the pics of the Hummer that my friedns was in. I have a video of another IED going off under a hummer as the Rangers arrive. I'll get it to Hood asap! Thanks for the questions guys, always good to know that someone is interested. Remember, we're supposed to be the quiet professionals, which means we don't get a lot of questions asked of us. But I'm willing as long as yall are interested.

Shrek out

No, the guys at Bragg that killed their wives got back as I was going and the one at Bliss the other day that killed himself I did not know. I do know two of the guys in the SF video made by the Dutch guys that has been posted here before. We ended up on the same piece of landscape with those guys one time. 14 months and they never got in a firefight, must have been maddening.

Presumably this boattail guy is pulling Shrek up on operational security issues. I would think Shrek knows what's safe to explain and what's not. And most of us may be armchair warriors of different degrees, but we all know that a desert cammed M4 with more Gucci accessories than Harrods doesn't belong to your average Ranger.

If this is the case, maybe boattail is worrying about the anti-sniper tactic.

The word Delta is almost as a joke as airsofter here.

I believe so.

To Boattail:

(Ref. Your PM, I don’t like hiding in the shadows) No, I am not now, nor will I ever be a Ranger. While in Afghanistan I was with the 20th group Special Forces. I have also served with the 7th Group, INSCOM Command, and several strategic-level Military Intelligence battalions. So, I am not one of the “**** bags” that you referred to in your PM. I have eaten the Blueberry pancake breakfast, however, it was while I watched a bunch of little bald asses run around looking like they were on fire. I have served in two wars and several other ops over the years, I have held the hands of two friends, one while he died the other because the other hand was gone. I hid in the rocks for three days with a Ranger sniper team in Afgh. made up of two boys whose combined ages didn’t add up to mine. I have never claimed to be high-speed nor have I ever touted my prowess as a warrior. I get the job done, period.

Several people on this forum have asked me about time that I may have spent with the 75th. I told them that I had two pictures, group only, of the 75th (not sure which, 1st or 2nd, I served with both). I posted them and they had nothing but positive comments. They continued to ask for more pics and I continued to search, however, I could find no more. SO, I e-mailed a friend of mine, his nick-name is Monkey, he IS a Ranger. And what do you know, the non-****bag, non-wannabe Ranger sent me these pics. THAT’S RIGHT!! I GOT THESE FROM A RANGER!! I was there during this OP, however I was a little too busy to sit at the checkpoint, why the D guy is there I do not know, he probably just showed up. He was a newbe to the area by the look of his freshly painted weapon.

In your PM you said that I was posting pics of SOF operators. Note the plural. All I see is ONE Delta guy and from that angle he looks like Opie from Andy Griffith.

As far as OPSEC is concerned, if you saw it on FOX, I talk about it here, my description of this OP was as vague as I could get it, it could have been a description of just about any OP where shots were exchanged. If you’re worried about me saying SNOT team, that’s old news too. Wanna see other pics of these Rangers, surf the net F..king net! Wanna see some Special Forces troops. There’s a great “hour-long” movie about one of my sister teams on the Discovery channel. All their names, hometowns, tactics etc.

I came close to getting smoked on three occasions while in Afgh. Two of them, that’s right twice, it was because of a Ranger. Once because some Einstein decided to pull the trigger mechanism off his SAW with it loaded, and the other when another brainyack shot a MK-19 into the air while he was “showing it” to some non-Ranger friends. Maybe next time we’ll talk about that!

So, in summation, Boattail, you can question and try to pic apart my OPSEC. You can question my judgment on posting certain pics. However, never question my integrity again unless you do it in person.

To Devgru77:

I highly recommend that you find the service you like and shoot for whatever SOF field that appeals to you. Just know going in that the path to SOF is long, and you cannot just jump right into it in any service. I was an E-5 before I even tried for SF (which is usually a strict pre-requisite but they're waivering E-4's now). Stick with it, you may find during the journey that it's not for you, but hopefully you'll love it. You have to love it to go through all the damn schools. good luck bud!

Don't know Robin Moore. haven't heard about that particular controversy. I try to be very careful in what I post. I look them over, and then look them over again. I never want to expose anybody that doesn't want to be. Little secret that I have already mentioned once. One of the teams over there came home and went first thing to help advertise the new Army SF PC game. Real names, film of them fast roping in, etc. OPSEC don't mean sh.t if you don't follow your own rules!!
