Wondering from any vets: is SFOD-D impossible to get into?
What kind of question is that?

Yes, it's impossible to get into, thus it's non-existence. :cantbeli:

Exactly, they wouldn't announce they're SFOD-D vets in the first place. But I'm sure you must have an extremely high level of tactical competence and physical fitness to get in.

It is a charcoal done by R. Townsend, an official artist for the AEF, in 1918.

Bud, it's not impossible, but it's dang near close. As you've probably heard before, the most critical trait is a sound, stable mind. Have a good one, and just some thoughts...

Thanks Tane Angle. What's the SF Q course like?

It wasn't that hard to get into. I simply told the bloke at the gate that I was the hardest motherf*cker in the world. So here I am today wielding my trusty M1000 plasma rifle while typing to you from a bunker on the moon.

Simple.

Well, you might want to ask more folks who have done it in recent years, but it was ok. p-) There's a part in Eric Haney's "Inside Delta Force" that I think applies to most courses. He says to Charlie Beckwith something to the effect of "[The selection course] was great. Sure it was tough sometimes, perhaps tougher than anything I've ever done at times, but I didn't have to tuck in a platoon everynight, didn't have to make sure a unit of a few dozen men was running smoothly, didn't have to worry about any officers." I've probably entirely miscontrued his quote, but the point is that while it is very tough, it's not horrible. In some ways it's less stressful.
Most folks who will drop out do so during SFAS, not the Q Course. In SFAS, they try to get push you down. In the Q Course, they try to help you up. SFAS is mainly a money and time saving course, meant to quickly weed out most of the people who will drop so that SF doesn't have to pay to feed them any longer. Have a good one, and just some thoughts...

Ah, the age old lament of the Platoon Sergeant.

I just got the most brilliant idea; instead of denying the unit's existance they should MERCHANDISE it! Bring out merchandise under every known name of the unit. Delta Force baseball caps, SFOD-D bumper stickers, CAG coffee mugs and D-boy baby diapers. They could make a fortune! :D

Actually, it’s become relatively easy to at least “try-out” for Delta (CAG). The selection course is in West Virginia (COMMON F..KING KNOWLEDGE, so you OPSEC weenies stay off my back), you have to meet a certain criteria experience wise and personally. It’s always best to have a sponsor of sorts to get you started. As usual it’s really who you know as much as what you know. The selection to even attempt the course (their version of SFAS) is brutal (I’ve heard) but doable (obviously). There cannot be a question about your physical abilities, if you get to the point where you can try it, you’re already in incredible shape! That’s really all I know!

Of course it wouldn't be impossible, or else nobody would be in it.
I walked through it in an hour and a half. :cantbeli:
