those are cheap knock offs.
You'll likely have to buy one from australia or SA itself mate.

I recently got a South African Assault Vest on US ebay, it's in brown and black, without the white tag but all details are same to the genuine one, I think you can search on ebay with patience, you'll get it eventually.:)

Yes, I know what you are talking about? Orginal in good service condition. It is made of heavy duty Nylon not a copycat toy. The soldier spray color on it fit for desert terrain not me. It is one for my collect item. If you look at New item it is very expensive and not very rare compare to cheap molle.:backhand:

I bought a genuine SADF '83 pattern vest a few weeks ago from this ebay seller: http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/harry7231/
He did have 2 more for sale, £45 each. Try contacting him to see if they sold. The one I bought was in excellent condition and arrived very quickly. He even sent a replacement fastex buckle for one that had snapped.

Hi all - First Post
Just wondering if anyone has tried to dye/colour their SA vest from the original brown to another colour. If so what did they use (Dyes/Spray paint?)
A Saffa friend of mine gave me his years ago and its been gathering dust for a while. The Irish Army has recently put out a tender for an Assault vest that sounds very similar to the SA vest specs. This has caused PLCE to become rare as thier not buying it anymore. Just wondering if its possible to dye/colour it OD for the interim till we get the new kit.
Regards,
Zulu

paint or spray paint works ok, even better would be to cover it a light weight material, i had mine covered with a hootchie

Hi 2/1 , can you do that work on a home sewing machine or do you need a bigger unit to sew through the webbing material?

Well. Finally got my hands on some Acid Dye that I was told would work on 1000d Cordura Nylon that most webbing is made from.
Heres the before photos
All that was needed was
1 x Beer Keg with lid cut off top with an angle grinder
6 x Packets of Jacquard Nylon dye
3 litres of malt vinegar
1 kg of salt
Large gas ring for boiling the 20 litres of water in the beer keg
One copy of FHM to read while waiting for water to boil
Added dye to boiling water, added vinegar. Vest went in and simmered for 30min. Vest came out and rinsed till clear water. Out on the line drying at the moment. After photos for tomorrow.

Well. It turned green thats for sure. It currently in the washing machine doing its dye hold test. The most aggresive wash the machine can give. Hopefully make sure all the dye that wants to come off will come off in the machine and not on someones uniform.
Any way here are the pre wash pictures. Not bad actually

I didn't either. Asked an old flame whos a costume designer for movies what I could do. She told me that acid dyes would work, but you needed alot of dye and vinegar for the process. Anyhoo. hopefully after the washing machine has finished torturing it, it should still be green.
Endless posibilities with this dye though.

Jacquard Dye or DYLON multipurpose dye. I've been doing some more projects and the DYLON stuff is a bit better. It comes in small little pots with metal caps on them.

I know this item of kit as a battle jacket. I still have mine, as well as my chest webbing and Kevlar helmet. Had no idea it was so sought after. It is comfortable to wear and very durable though.
