The University of Alaska, Fairbanks Geophysical Institute's Arctic Tortoise, shown in this UAF file photo, will be the UAF Geophysical Institute's entry in the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency "Grand Challenge." The idea behind the competition, which now carries a $2 million grand prize, is to build a robust, autonomous robotic vehicle for the U.S military that can drive itself over a 142-mile obstacle course in less than 10 hours. The Arctic Tortoise is a radically converted 1992 Jeep Cherokee with a 4.0-liter, 171-horsepower engine and a hefty load of sophisticated electronics on board and can reach speeds up to 50 mph. The OH-56 isn't an attack helicopter and it's not armored; cleary, a well paced bullet can disable the engine; anyway, the damage is quite limited and helicopter can easy repaired.
It's safer if the US ARMY could change is scout helicopter in the future; cancelled the Comanche, even a AH-1 Cobra with advanced sensors can be better than OH-56.
Just my 2 $.

I wondering the same thing. The situation is soooo different to a few days back that it surely almost suits the US army. Therefore if you have a weapon you are a legitimite target.
Of course, posing for journalists with a shiny AK or RPG miles from any enemy positions is different, but you know what i mean.

Nothing inconsistant with calling NAZIs socialist; quite simpley because they are. The national part of national socialist is consistant with the left today as you see the anti-globalisation freaks happen to be socialist/ communist. In fact, it was the right wing that politically opposed the NAZIs. Socialism does not have to include ever member of society. However, the NAZIs were bascially an out of control workers union. It seems emotions have many of you Europeans blind to the realities and the irony of Europe today.

OMG :cantbeli:
btw? Do you think the commies are right extremists?
Beacause according to your opinipn the nazis killed their lefty brothers and banned a left wing party. (KPD = Kommunistische Partei Deuschlands)
I'm pointing out the inconsistencies in calling nazism socialist. But it depends on who you were aiming that post at.
Hitler hated the communists, if the nazi were only socialist, as opposed to socialist nationalists then, they would have been anti-semitic. Hitler mixed, left-wing socialism (rebuilding a ruined country, making it into a world power) and right-wing nationalism (killing jews, ethnically cleansing europe, and declaring war on the world). Now which of those two is the bad, exteremist policy? What are the nazis hated for? Puting Germany back on track after ww1 (and yes I know he stop repayments, but the point stil stands) or killing jews left, right and center. The evil in nazism came from the right-wing elements.

if this man is not with the coalition why has is head been crushed by a rock?
I suppose cut put it pretty well, but here's the kindergarten version so all of you will understand:
After WW1, and partially due to the measures forced upon Germany after it, Germany was pretty much in the gutter. Now what was the socialist part of the Nazi's? They took good care of the unemployment, and had some pretty good projects, for one the autobahn (also one of the things that skyrocketed employment), and the volkswagen. Now actually, in the early years, when you'd take away the anti-jew stuff and all you have to give it to them nazi's; they DID pull Germany out of the gutter. Wouldn't they have the utterly retarded anti-jew and German superiority ideas then they might have actually become known as the 'saviors' of Germany. But alas, that did not happen. All the 'bad things' the Nazi's were known for had totally nothing to do with leftwing.

Someone made a comment on my education, which is funny since I might be the most educated here.
Nationalism is not unique to the right wing or a right wing ideal per se. Actually, nationalism is very strong in countries like Venezuela and
Cuba. As I mentioned earlier, a lot of the anti-globalisation people are nationalist and extreme left. All the good things that you mentioned the NAZIs did, vis-a-vis workers, unemployment, volkswagon and so on are SOCIALIST. Now just because one country is socialist does not mean it is automatically going to be buddy buddy with a communist country. Communist countries have fought against each other!
All I see is a lot of ignorant European emotion. The propaganda machine has poisoned the minds of many into thinking NAZIs = right wing; the opposite is true, which I have already proved several times. The NAZI party was in direct opposition to the right.. and as a workers union, that makes it pretty far left!
It's quite clear that I am not the one lacking in education.

Nazis had both left wing and right aspects, yes they were called "socialist" but then Tony Blair is in the Socialist party, is he a nazi too? or even a socialist for that matter?
Nationalism is mainly found in right wing parties, but it does creep into other extreme parties, socialism is not extreme in the slightest, socialism has been around longer than communism and should not be mixed up. You say we in europe have been poisoned into believing that nazis are right wing, this is not true, nazis are not particularly right-wing or left wing, the nazis had some socialist policies. As you said used them to deal with unemployment (success!), volkswagen (great cars, another success), and productivity (considering they had no army at the end of WW1, bloody impressive too). I say to you that in america, "the propaganda machine has poisoned the minds of many into thinking" that socialism and communism are one and the same.
If Hitler's nazi party was really socialist why not call it that, because it wasn't it was fascist. A mix of right and left wing, he is not the only person/party to use such a mix, Tony Blair and New Labour are not exactly traditional socialists, or even social-democrats, i suggest you look at this site to find out, www.thirdway.org.
The unlikely pairing of Hitler and Blair have shown that Politics is not just right and left. In a good way and in a bad way.

There seems to be a long barrelled AK variant in the background. What is it? RPK without a bipod?

America army suck !! They look really scare by face expression in photos in this couples day. They don't look well trained army for the real war with the big contrast with iraqi rebel or even british army.
SO America will toast!!!
Chinese soldiers are boyscouts compared to American soldiers. Americans killed them by the thousands in the Korean War. Don't kid yourself. A single carrier group is preventing China from taking back Taiwan, PATHETIC! How many Chinese soldiers have combat experience. They are all f*ckin conscripts, if anybody actually wanted to serve in the Chinese army there would be no need for conscription. "Not well trained" :slap: ? The Chinese army looks like a bunch of midgets running around in ill-fitting uniforms with cheap remakes of Russian rifles, tripping over each other. What does China's army have to pride itself with? The ability to re-engineer foreign equipment into cheap quality copies and parade through streets showing it off? If China tried any military action in its current state it'd be toast. :bash:

I agree with you that proffesional army can't be compared with conscripts, but remember that the real power of China and Chinese army is in numbers not in quality. Americans killed them by the thousands in the Korean War - but those f**** comunists were still coming from the second side of Yalu river. They will not count their casualties in case of any war - they will be just sending more and more to die - just like in Korea they did. There is a lot of them to die ;)
