why on MP?
http://www.fanshop-online.de/catalog/images/ferrari/SF828.jpg
because it has a military story:
during the WW I, an italian pilot, Francesco Baracca, painted the side of his plane with a black horse, the emblem of his family.
He painted the black horse on every planes he used:

He was the captain of the 91th Squadriglia degli Assi (aces' squadron) and he won 34 battles.
he died during an action against austro-hungarian, hit from the ground in 1918.
In 1924 Enzo Ferrari, met Baracca's Parents and they suggested him to paint the black horse on his car, to remember their son and as symbol of fortune.

And SF in the logo stands for Special Forces right?
No serious now, both letters don't have anything to do with the military history of the stallion I suppose. I can imagine where the F stands for, but where does the S come from?

Edit: title of this thread did ring me a bell, Scudetto Ferrari?

SF = Scuderia Ferrari

Scuderia = stable for horses, racing-car organization for steel horses!!

"scuderis" is not italian language (and not in my english dictionary); here is "Scuderia".

horse was for joking.

Before the war Baracca was a cavalry officer with the 2° Reggimento Cavalleria 'Piemonte Reale' and when he chose an insigna for its plane he decided to go for something in memory of its old unit. Part of its old unit insigna is a pranking silver horse on red background (this regiment is still in existence)

By the way the horse of Ferari got its tail up while the 'Baraca's horse' got its tail down and originaly Ferari car where to be of only two color red for Ferari owned race car and yellow for the other.

Some other car company were (and some still are) associated with WW1 aviation
in france the Hispano company was as radiator tap (a bit like RR is using a flying lady) using as an insigna the Spa3 stork then the stork became the insigna of the company
Both Mercedes and BMW were in ww1 making aircraft engine and there logo reflect that (Mercedes a 3 bladed propeler and BMW a 2 bladed one in action)
then you have Rolls-Royce that make plane engine for nearly one century
You also have Bleriot thta make money by producing car light
