Teenager stabbed in mosque attack

A 16-year-old Asian youth was stabbed in the arm as disturbances involving 200 people flared following attacks on cars parked at a mosque.
Police said the attacks were racially motivated, and extra officers were patrolling the Avenham area of Preston.
Bricks and concrete blocks were thrown at cars of people attending the mosque.
Chief Supt Mike Barton said: "These problems are being caused by a small group of criminals in the area intent on intimidating the local community."
Cars damaged
The stabbed youth was not seriously injured and there were no arrests, police said.
The disturbance follows the death of an Asian student in July after a fight between up to 40 Asian and white youths nearby, which police described as a "suspected race attack".
About 100 officers were called to the Jamia Masjid mosque when disorder broke out on Sunday evening on Clarendon Street.
Ch Supt Barton said there was a growing element of criminal, anti-social behaviour in the area and those responsible needed ridding from the community.
He said: "This incident of stone throwing is an example of that, and as you can expect, people are unhappy with being victimised.

"[On Sunday] a number of cars were damaged outside the mosque and people who were worshipping inside came out to see what was going on. Not surprisingly, they have been very angry."
He said because of the large number of people on the streets, police decided to deploy more officers to offer reassurance and prevent disorder. Patrols are being boosted and police are using video cameras to gather evidence. They are warning that people who launch reprisals will be arrested. In July Shezan Umarji, 20, was killed on the Callon Estate, one and a half miles away from Avenham.

Mindless violence is never acceptable. There is no justification to victimize a innocent person. Those guilty of such acts should be brought before the Law.. and dealt with accordingly. There is Never a justification for the MOB taking the law into their own hands. That is exactly what we are fighting in the war against Terrorism.

UNLESS...your government is falling short on guts and willingness to defend you. Many have seen the weakness the world's free governments show in the face of Islamic Fascists...and thus, you have some citizens who are taking such weakness seriously.

Now, if Muslims in the free world were to come out and condemn acts of terrorisim, that might make folks less inclined to treat them with such disrespect. But, as we have seen...Muslims universally seem to adore acts of terrorism against free societies.

Just my little humble opinion on the matter...MM

Yes when the government seriously fails to act.. Vigilantism will happen. One of the main reason it is important for the government to act.

As you stated, failure to act also emboldens the "criminal" to action, Both the above failures leads in a downward spiral to mob rule.

I would hope Muslims in the western societies would have taken a more proactive role in condemning acts of terrorism.

White-Asian violence is hardly rare in Preston, Burnley, Bradford or any of the other former mill towns in NW England! It always seems to occur in low-income areas (as is the Callon estate) which have a multitude of social problems to begin.

Before 9/11 there was always this sort of White-Asian trouble which often occurs the world over between different ethnic groups. Nothing new for us in the North of England then!

9/11 seemed like something which attracted disaffected/bored/dead-end job Muslims who where on the look out for a cause. Thus we have the 7/7 four who hit London;

In Preston as in the everywhere else in the mill towns - Asians (read South Asians rather than SE Asians - as I think whom you refer?) do not tend to marry Whites. Don't get me wrong I have and still do have lots of male and female S.Asian and SE.Asian friends - extremists are the minority when it comes to Islam.

But there is absolute. no way I could marry or have a serious relationship with a Muslim or Sikh girl - the fallout from the family would be too much.
