things hotting up in Basra
at least 20 rpg attacks and gun battles one armoured landrove lost to an rpg crew had to use 40mm grenades to disuade mob from overrunning them.
My brother saw an attempted ambush on a warrior. opening fire at the rear of a warrior result turret spin rounds gives it a clip of 30mm then chain gun as rear door opens two minimi and a ugl reply with a shout of "come on you Bastards" result MG team disapear.
a RPG man was turned into confetti when hit by a chain gu.
locals still coming to front gate asking for firmer measures to be taken against the bad guys
I take it the armoured landy is the one we've seen in the pics, were the squaddies in it injured or did they get away with it?
thanks for the news btw.

"Come on, you BASTARDS!"
There's just something quintessentially British about that...:)
Hope your Bro stays safe out there, Martin..

crew ok it was an armoured snatch landrover they legged it home.
allies in control of basra as they always have been
locals are more or less in control British tend to back them up when neccesary political situation is complicated to say the least. Head shed seems to be pouring over old colonial office logs from when we were last there.
Joke going round that various posh nursing homes have been visted to enlist the views of retired colonel types who were in charge last time round rofl

Shiite radicals kill British soldier, down drone in Iraq city: police
AMARA, Iraq, (AFP) - Shiite Muslim militiamen have killed a British soldier after shooting down a drone over the southern Iraqi town of Amara, Iraqi police said.
AFP/File Photo
"At 10:15 pm (1815 GMT) Thursday, rebels opened fire on a pilot-less aircraft and shot it down over a public park in the Hay al-Hussein area of Amara," said warrant officer Mohammad Attiya Obeid, who witnessed the incident.
The rebels rushed to pick up pieces of the downed drone and took them as a trophy to the local headquarters of Shiite radical leader Moqtada Sadr, Obeid told AFP.
Shortly afterwards, a unit of about 20 British soldiers arrived on the scene of the crash and the rebels opened fire "killing one British soldier and wounding two others," the police officer said, adding that the unit immediately pulled back.
A British spokesman was not immediately available for comment on the reported casualties.
