Joint initiative nets sizeable marihuana seizure
OTTAWA — October 6, 2006 — Project Sabot is a marihuana eradication initiative conducted annually across the country. The objective is to target grow operations and eliminate marihuana distribution in Canadian communities. Every year, this joint initiative uses aerial patrols to locate and seize marihuana crops.
To maximize the impact of this year’s Project, and to make it as cost-efficient as possible, with the help of the Department of National Defence, the “A” Division RCMP Drug Section partnered with other provincial and municipal law enforcement agencies. This year, the RCMP teamed up with the Sûreté du Québec, the MRC des Collines and the Ontario Provincial Police to form the 2006 combined-services Marihuana Eradication Team. From August 22 until October 5 , the team located and destroyed outdoor marihuana grow-ops in and around the National Capital Region.
A total of 38,859 marihuana plants and 172 kilos of buds in bulk were seized over the course of the operation.
“When we join forces, we’re able to locate and seize more marihuana plants than any one of our agencies would be able to manage on its own” said Staff Sergeant Jacques Lemieux, an “A” Division RCMP Drug Section spokesperson.
The success of Project Sabot means that less marihuana is available for sale in our communities. These drugs could ultimately have been sold to children and the profits used to finance organized criminal activities.
The RCMP balances enforcement efforts like Project Sabot with community-based harm reduction programs, such as Aboriginal Shield, D.A.R.E. and Drugs in the Workplace. The RCMP also works in close partnership with various health, educational and treatment professionals to educate the public about the causes and impacts of substance abuse.

Wow, they really blend into the background vegetation from the air, don't they? What a bunch of dumbasses, its like painting a field yellow and hoping someone doesn't notice. Even with in the undergrowth, a thermal camera will still pick it out a mile away.

Oh, thanks man. I was completly blind to the entire point of this article. If it had not been for you, I might have gone through life thinking that marijuanna was legal.

It is not legal in any amount in Canada. However, it has been decriminalised in samll amounts. It's still an offence, just not a criminal offense, it's like being ticketed for speeding or drinking in public.

Hahah yeah, a few guys from my unit got hired onto them in the past 6-8 months and the stuff they tell me is pretty.. eye-brow raising. Havent heard anything about drugs though. One time when I was sixteen I walked out of na LCBO in mississauga with about 18 beers and they stopped me, ticketed me, and instead of pouring it out as they should, put it in the back of their cruiser and no doubt had a great night.
It's been debated here before, but to me....booze is legal and is one of the worst substances around and destroys lives daily...why not make pot legal and increase revenue from taxing it (just like booze).

Not really no. They tend to ****y trap their sites and then just let the plants grow and grow and come back when they are fully matured. Most of them probably have abnother 30 fields like that growing anyways.

If they know what the hell they're doing they have to come back and pull all the male plants before they pollinate the females and ruin the crop, otherwise they wind up with ragweed sh*t. And the name of the game in that biz is potency. It's the buds of the female plants that are the most potent and once they're polinated you're fooked....not that I would know anything about that.

It's pretty easy to clone the females. If they are that organized, they wouldn't plant males in the first place.
