My SIG SG543 has been sitting in the back of the gunsafe for the last five years, seeing little or no use. So I have decided to give it a new lease of life.
But my eyesight is not the best with open sights, and I want to to get some sort of red-dot or low magnification scope for it.
Since money is also an issue, I won't use more than $450 (4500NOK) for the sight (which sadly excludes the compact ACOG's).

The carbine has got a 11.5" bbl, and will be used for short range (max 100yds) shooting

The sight will be mounted in a Brügger&Thomet picatinny rail (BT-21352) made for the SG543

The sights I'm looking at:

Zeiss Z-point

or

Trijicon ReflexII

or

EoTech 551
http://www.nightoptics.com/mm5/graphics/00000001/acc_EoTech551.jpg

I know many of you would go for an Aimpoint M2 or M3, but I allready got a couple of those on my other rifles, and I want something different this time.

Any advise on the red-dots mentioned, or new reccomendations will be appreciated.

I would suggest the EoTech sight, the Reflex is nice too but is a different type of sight. The EoTech is a Holo sight and the Reflex is just a red dot, I have Aimpoints and love them but I also have a EoTech and found out that I like it better for shorter range....and if in the future you want magnification you can always add a Aimpoint 3X Magnifier that works great with Eotechs as well as Aimpoint.
I think you'll be more than happy with the Eotech.....
ps. You can also find a used one in great condition for much less than a new one !

Zeiss is small and light, but there have been some cases of it breaking. The lens is also not very big, so it is not as fast as it could be. I do not trust it.

Trijicon as far as I have seen is quite a good sight but has one setback. Because of the technology they use the lense is dark. If you shoot in dim light it doesn't help to look through a dark piece of glass. And for me it ruins otherwise good sight.

Eotechs have very few bad qualities.

My suggestion...use the search.

Did a search on Zeiss Z-point and ReflexII, nothing came up. And the manufacturers web-sites doesn't give actual user experience on their products.
But thanks to you other guys who bothered anyway.

Hey, I'll help a guy out that owns a SIG, go EOTech all the way.
I had a Reflex II, didn't like it due to wash out and a few other things, so I sold it to fund an EOTech, then I ended up with 3 of them on my ARs. Traded one of them and a case of ammo for an IOR, but EOTEch rock.

Get an EOTech.

Get an EOTech ~ the dual reticle and built in mount are slick.

I would recommend the eotech or the Zeiss Z point.......the zeiss Z point is a great red dot scope(no magnification) but really a tight little package....I have one mounted on an ultimak picatinny rail on my AK.....it works Fantastic...and its a zeiss (some of the greatest optics ever made IMHO) and the Z point has a built in mount as well, much easier than a eotech

Loke,

Zeiss is not a good option, it is basically a take off from the G36 dual optic. it uses one spring for windage and elevation adjustment, which creates a problem when zero and maintain zero. the optic window is super small which makes acquiring target a task. the sight has been know to break. look at all the German KSK photo, not too many are yusing this set up, even the G36 with optic would have an EOtech mount atop of the optic handle.

Trijicon Reflex is a great concept back in the early 90s. but with the development of Aimpoint M series and EOTech, the Reflex are really out dated. Reflex tend ot wash out in bright light, like in low light and you shine you combat light on a white wall and the dot would disappear. i have not lost the dot in sun light yet, but it is kind of dim so it is tough to pick it out. the blue tint on the lens made identifying target out to 200m impossible in less then desire lighting condition. all lot of people talk about no battery so it won't go dead. the sight is powered by fiber optic for day light and trillium for night ops. how long does Trillium last? five years? ten years? then you would have to recharge or change out the trillium. Aimpoint with a double battery module will last you 20000-40000 hours. that is like 5 years of continuous operation time. that is five years of not turning off your Aimpoint. and how much is an aimpoint battery? you get my point.

so in the end, my happiness goes with the EOtech, but i get it with the AA battery so i can run lithium AA in it. the shorter N cell battery is junk and i avoid with all my might.

all of these sights have windage and elevation adjustments....and my Z point has NEVER lost zero, not even after over 2000 rounds in my AK....sight picture is fast, granted not as fast probably as the eotech....but still a great red dot, you wont go wrong with either one...my suggestion play with both and see which one you like best

Yep, that's the ticket.

EOTech 512/552 will be just perfect for you. AA bateries are easier and cheaper to get than N type for 511/551, plus they last longer. You really need NV mode for anything? If not get 512 instead of 552, it'll save you a few bucks.
