All,
Has any of you had any experience with the Steyr AUG, if so, how well does the standard optic work in close quarters? Thx
The integral 1.5x scope is adequate for rapid target aquisition at ranges suited to aimed shots. If you call close range room to room MOUT type use, the scope has primitive iron sights on top.

With the low power magnification you can still use the optical sight with two eyes open. It's no harder than using the iron sights and you can pick it up fairly easily with practice.

It worked really well in East Timor.

I like the sight. You're really fast with it and can shoot both eyes open. The iron sights on top are for emergency use or in CQB. The scope is very robust, can't kill it. The problems I see with the scope: In Nighttime it's hard to see the crosshairs or the donut, there you rely on the Tritium Ironsights, but they are not that accurate on distances. The other problem is the scope diameter, I think it's too small. You could be faster with tageting and it would let more light trough. A red dot or a tritium dot inside the scope would also be helpful for fast targeting. But still it's a good standart scope to be used by normal soldiers. For special need you can put everything on that goes on a MIL STD 1913 rail.
Cheers
