Hmmm... Letīs try and trace back this erroneous thought that Germany had nuclear subs (Jabroni is not the first to say that)...
Step 1: Israel "buys" several (Diesel-Electric) DOLPHIN-class subs from Germany in two batches. These subs are fitted with several larger 650mm torpedo tubes allegedly to accomodate cruise missiles that can be used with nuclear warheads. This leads several people to the simplification that they were nuclear subs, and not "nuclear-capable" subs.
Step 2: The new Dolphins are retrofitted with an air independent propulsion system not unlike that on the U214 class. The U212A however is different and more advanced.
Step 3: International media and government releases suggest that the U214 class was comparable/similar to the U212A class of submarines, possibly to feed off of the U212A fame... which is not valid. The U214 is based on the older U209 as is the DOLPHIN; the U212A however is a largely new development.
The shortened version is that unclear media reports coupled with simplification by readers and constant reposting of said misconceptions throughout the net leads some to the interpretation that the DOLPHIN as well as the U212A were nuclear subs.
I think all this erroneous thought about german nuclear subs is 1. Laziness to read the article. 2. Lack of reading comprehension by some who read and report them as being nuclear powered subs.
