I have just been offered a psd contract ..... I know there are all sorts of threads about deployment gear for Iraq, but most of that is focussed on the (US) military.
I would like to hear any suggestions for "must haves" - if you have experience out there, be a mate and share your knowledge.
For the record I have read (many times) "Gun and Run in Iraq" and "Packing for War" - both found everywhere on t'internent and particularly on Civialiancontractor.net.
And I'm UK based, so I can't buy restricted items from the US eg kevlar body armour or lid.
And Argyll, or other CIRAS wearers, do "normal shaped/sized ballistic panels fit in the CIRAS carrier?
Thanks....

Not PSD either but in answer to the CIRAS question, they were designed to take a soft armour package that conforms to the cut of the SPEAR BALCS soft panel, this is not the same cut as civilian soft armour such as the panels found in covert vests. IIRC they do take normal size (10"x12" SAPI or ESAPI plates for hard armour). Your best bet might be to phone up Eagle and ask them directly I've heard good things about the customer service they offer.

Your better off asking other employees of your company...
I seriously do not understand why you would come to an internet forum for expertise.
If anything, you should have PM'd "Argyll".

I agree that you'd be better off asking some fellow employee's to see what their bringing and you could use for your particular contract role.

There's actually quite a lot of expertise on this forum. It doesn't hurt to pursue many different lines of enquiry to get a better view of the overall picture.

The internet is just a tool mate - and a world wide one at that. I don't see any problem with it - just a way to get advice someone else might know....

Try SOTech, they have a modular setup much like the CIRAS but they can custom make the panels for you so you can fit what ever you are issued in it.
I try to find out what kind of weapon they are issuing, which most likely be an AK of some type. find a optic and a nice mount for it.
best of luck.

It cant hurt to ask here. Even though most of us (myself included) arent in the service, virtually everybody here has done a lot of research on gear. Couple that book knowledge with some info from guys in your company who have been over and you are better off than you were before you asked! Good luck and stay safe. RR

CIRAS:
Many models of soft covert ballistic panels will fit the CIRAS carrier. Personally I use SBA (Swedish Body Armour) made panels supllied in the UK by http://www.stoppa.co.uk/.
The combo V 3D vest is a very close fit into the CIRAS-M or L and NIJ level II & IIIA versions are available. I have a medium CIRAS & use medium sized armour.
SBA's "tactical" range of vests such as the RPS are to long to fit the equivellant CIRAS carrier by about an inch or two. They will however build custom shaped panels & I am considering getting some made specifically to fit the CIRAS/RAV vests, if anyone else is interested drop me a line. They also do a complete range of rifle plates also available through Stoppa.
Lid/bone dome:
Depending on what you want try ebay. However I recommend http://www.bulletproofme.com/index.shtml in the US, you'll incur a fair chunk of import duty but I have used them several times & they have excellent customer service. They ship ACH/MICH styled (as well as PASGT) helmets to the UK.
Once again stay safe.
